The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garcia tries to clinch up but Hardey circles away and keeps his distance. Hardey will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Garcia shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hardey's guard. Hardey tries to land a sweep but no joy. Garcia pushing down on Hardey's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Hardey trying to control but Garcia postures up.

Garcia does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Hardey throws a series of strikes that have Garcia backpedaling.
Hardey closes the distance and clinches up with Garcia, looking for a takedown. Hardey pushes Garcia against the cage but Garcia circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Nice sprawl there from Garcia as Hardey shoots in. Hardey doesn't succeed with the takedown and Garcia counters by moving into the clinch. Devon Garcia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Hardey. Hardey takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Hardey wants a takedown.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hardey is on top in guard.

Purcell blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Purcell drops down looking for an ankle pick but Salek pulls his leg out and moves away.

Purcell connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Purcell throws a combination that misses and Salek counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Salek decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Salek pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Purcell rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Salek moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Purcell gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Salek looks to score with a jab to the body but Purcell is just out of range. Purcell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Salek counters with a slapping leg kick. Salek fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Purcell, pushing him back against the cage. It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
That's one minute gone in the round. Salek unloads a knee to the mid-section. Purcell lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. A head punch blocked on the inside by Salek. Purcell wants to get back to striking at distance but Salek won't allow it.

Purcell jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Salek walks away with a smile on his face. Purcell gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Purcell lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Salek is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Salek pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Salek shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Salek wants to clinch. Salek shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Salek wants to clinch. Salek dodges the punch combination from Purcell.

Purcell throws a right hand that Salek ducks under and follows up with a left that Salek also avoids with ease. Purcell shoots in but Salek avoids the takedown attempt easily. Purcell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Salek keeps working. Salek is trying to get back to his feet. Salek is working to avoid the ground and pound but Purcell connects with a decent elbow. Purcell decides to stand back up. Salek lands with a kick to the temple. Purcell shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Purcell shoots in but no luck this time. Salek tries to clinch up.

Salek manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Rob Salek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Purcell. Salek uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Purcell. Salek fails in his attempt to clinch. Salek slips a jab and a cross from Purcell.

Salek is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Purcell pulls him back up using the underhooks. Salek keeps control of Purcell as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Purcell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Purcell goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Salek slips under a jab. Purcell closes this distance looking for a takedown but Salek circles away. Salek throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Purcell. Purcell throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Salek has managed to clinch.
