Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Dante Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike lawrence! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Franklyn Lucas and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones feints and as lawrence raises his hands in defense, Jones changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Jones stops lawrence from standing up. lawrence preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Jones is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. lawrence is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.
Jones with a flurry of punches that miss. Jones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Jones trying to control but lawrence is working from the bottom. Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jones drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if lawrence can do anything to dispel that myth. Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but lawrence keeps working. Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for lawrence on the ground. lawrence is pushing Jones's head away, looking to escape. Jones manages to hold on to the position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Jones working the ground and pound from side control. Sloppy strikes there by Jones. Jones controlling the position from side mount. lawrence is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Jones lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. lawrence tries to buck Jones off but Jones is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. lawrence gets back to half guard. Jones controlling the action here. lawrence manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Horrible takedown by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by lawrence which made him look bad. lawrence displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jones. Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. lawrence tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag lawrence to the ground. lawrence escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dante Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him. lawrence leaves Jones with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but lawrence circles away. lawrence lunges at Jones with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Jones's hand. Nice combo by lawrence! Oh, that's hurt him - Jones falls to the canvas and lawrence follows him into side control.

It looks like Dante Jones has been cut. Jones is breathing heavily. This has been an exciting period of action! lawrence decides to take the fight back to the feet. Oh Jones is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! lawrence throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Jones takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. lawrence moves into the clinch. Jones seems to have got his legs back now. Jones doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Jones wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. lawrence breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones throws a jab when lawrence was well out of range. lawrence stuffs the takedown attempt from Jones. Jones gets slowly back to his feet. lawrence is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.
Jones fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Jones keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. lawrence fails with an attempt to clinch.
lawrence tries to clinch up. Jones with a lazy takedown attempt and lawrence counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. lawrence misses with a double jab.

Jones shoots in for a takedown but lawrence shows good takedown defense. lawrence fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away. Dante Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. lawrence keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. lawrence has control of Jones's left arm, preventing Jones from doing any damage. Jones prevents lawrence from getting back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

He's worked his way up against the cage but Jones has just dragged him back down to the mat. Jones cracks lawrence with an elbow. That is naaassty. lawrence on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Jones working the ground and pound. lawrence wants to get back to his feet but Jones drags him back down. Jones is putting a hurting on lawrence here, landing some big shots from side control. Jones lands a decent elbow from side control. Jones tries for a kimura but lawrence is defending well. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Jones landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Jones prefers to stall for the moment though. lawrence wants to get back to his feet but Jones drags him back down. lawrence is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. lawrence is working to avoid the ground and pound but Jones connects with a decent elbow. Jones staying calm. Jones has knee on belly and moves into mount. The referee warns lawrence that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Dante Jones's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. lawrence goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Jones doesn't succeed with the takedown and lawrence connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gavin takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Frint lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
An inside leg kick lands from Frint. Gavin looks for a takedown but Frint sprawls well. Frint tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gavin swats him away and circles back towards the center. Gavin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Gavin throws a strike aimed at the side of Frint's head but Frint avoids it well. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Frint wants to clinch. Gavin dodges the punch combination from Frint.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. A punch combination from Frint misses. Frint tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Chris Frint will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Frint keeping full guard, as Gavin tries to pass. Gavin passes Frint's left leg - he's now in half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Frint has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gavin is working away from the top position though. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Frint is defending against the submission attempts here by Gavin.

Gavin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Frint is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gavin, into his guard. Gavin keeping moving, preventing Frint from controlling successfully. Gavin doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Frint doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Frint manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Gavin wants to sweep but no luck. Frint stands up over Gavin, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Gavin is looking to sweep but instead, Frint has passed into half guard.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Briatore shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Droopy napping and manages to drive through into side control! Briatore tries to move into full mount but can't pass Droopy's legs. The ground and pound from Briatore seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Briatore fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Briatore postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Briatore tries for a kimura but Droopy is defending well. Droopy defending against the ground and pound.
