1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anthony Poole! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bowles moves into the clinch. Bowles gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Poole controlling the position. Poole is trying to control the position but Bowles postures up. Poole is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Poole keeping full guard, as Bowles tries to pass. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Poole takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Bowles scores with a push kick. Bowles closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bowles lands in his opponent's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bowles drops back looking for a leg! Poole is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Poole manages to kick Bowles off! Bowles jumps back into Poole's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bowles seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Poole wants to sweep but no luck. Poole looks gassed! Poole bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bowles's guard. Poole decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bowles, up you get! Bowles really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Bowles closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Poole did well to prevent Bowles getting side control. Bowles wants to work for an arm triangle but Poole is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Poole is in a horrible position here. Bowles smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Poole is desperately trying to improve his position but Bowles has a good base and remains in mount. Bowles can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Poole is looking to escape. Bowles controlling the pace for now. Bowles trying to control but he's not successful this time.

He has the arm isolated but Poole is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Bowles creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Baker throws a head kick that misses and Law counters with a head kick. That will keep Baker thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Baker works Law's body with a nice hook. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Law shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Baker as he avoids it easily. A head kick by Baker misses and Law counters with a takedown into side control. Law decides to stand back up. Law steps back and let's Baker get back to his feet. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Baker throws a lazy head kick and Law counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Baker wants to get back to his feet but Law passes into half guard.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ishida looks for a takedown but Datu sprawls well. Datu tries to clinch there but Ishida circles away.
Datu throws a nice inside leg kick. Datu moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Ishida shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Datu takes the fight into the clinch. Datu decides to pull guard. Datu is controlling Ishida's posture. Ishida trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Datu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Datu trying to control the position here. Ishida preventing the sweep.

Datu in side control lands a decent elbow. Datu lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ishida down.

Datu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Datu cracks Ishida with an elbow. That is naaassty. Ishida is trying to get back to half guard. Datu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ishida is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Datu lands some shots froms side control. Datu lands a few punches from side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Ishida is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Ishida gets full guard. Ishida had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Datu is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ishida Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Datu's back instead. Despite being in a bad position, Datu is controlling the hands, preventing any submission attempts. Datu rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Datu is concentrating on defense, preventing Ishida from advancing position. Ishida is just content to waste time from the top position. Datu takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Datu is controlling Ishida's posture. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jericho Datu dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Datu closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ishida did well to prevent Datu getting side control. Datu is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Datu tries to free his leg and advance position but Ishida is retaining full guard. Datu slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Datu passes Ishida's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Datu looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Datu is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Datu bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Ishida's head backwards. Ishida swats away the attempt to clinch by Datu. Ishida fails with the takedown and Datu counters with a nice double leg into guard. Datu drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Datu jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Datu trying to control but Ishida is working from the bottom. Datu content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Datu not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Datu drops back looking for a leg! Ishida is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ishida manages to kick Datu off! Datu jumps back into Ishida's guard.

Datu's corner is telling him to maintain position. Datu chips away with some ground and pound. Ishida escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Datu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Ishida keeping moving, preventing Datu from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jericho Datu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
