1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Baio Cain! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Boris Macarov! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cain bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Cain lands an elbow. Cain scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Macarov to see if he's OK. Macarov takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Macarov is looking to reverse the position. Macarov is working to avoid the ground and pound but Cain connects with a decent elbow. Macarov avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Cain. Cain scoring with punches from side control. Macarov looks gassed! Macarov avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Cain. Macarov taking punishment in the form of punches.
Macarov takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Cain is working Macarov over with some ground and pound from side control. Cain throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land. Cain gets back to half guard. Cain tries to get to full guard but Macarov has control of the leg. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cain is defended easily by Macarov. Macarov scores with a takedown into Cain's guard. Macarov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Macarov wants to stand but Cain is controlling his posture from full guard. Cain keeping moving, preventing Macarov from controlling successfully. Macarov with a flurry of punches that miss. Cain wants to sweep here but Macarov controlling him for the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Macarov is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Cain knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Macarov on the ground. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cain holds on and takes a little breather. Cain is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Macarov tries to get to full guard but Cain has control of the leg. Macarov lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage. Cain is trying to control. Macarov wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Macarov moves into full guard.
Cain is looking to work some ground and pound but Macarov has wrist control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Baio Cain will probably get the nod. That's time! Cain's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Cain has his takedown stuffed and Macarov holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Cain has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Macarov is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Cain can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Baio Cain. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cain has Macarov pressed against the cage, preventing Macarov from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Macarov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Cain keeping moving, preventing Macarov from controlling successfully. Cain is trying to get back to full guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cain flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Cain shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Macarov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Cain has his foot on Macarov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Macarov works his way back into a safe position though. Macarov won't allow Cain to sweep him here. Macarov won't allow Cain to get back to his feet. Cain wants to hit a switch here but Macarov passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Cain there! Cain flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Macarov cracks Cain with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Richard Head seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Head throws a lazy right hand but Niekonieczny sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Head lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
The cut above Janusz Niekonieczny's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Head scores with a jab. Niekonieczny acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Niekonieczny is rocked! Head lands with a big right hook that stumbles Niekonieczny - he's out on his feet here! Head follows up with another monster hook that separates Niekonieczny from consciousness! Niekonieczny falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Head stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that methos lage was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Stout is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. lage can't fight it off and eventually Stout manages to take the fight to the floor. lage looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. lage working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stout doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stout manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. lage is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hagendoorn throws a right and a left that Hawk avoids nicely. Hawk showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hagendoorn.
Hagendoorn misses with a two punch combination.
Hagendoorn throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hawk's waist but Hawk gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hagendoorn off to one side. Hagendoorn shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Hagendoorn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hawk moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Hawk drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hagendoorn is breathing heavily. Hawk is looking to take a break and control but Hagendoorn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Hawk stands up and we're back to a striking position. Hagendoorn throws a right and a left that Hawk avoids nicely. Hagendoorn doesn't succeed with the takedown and Hawk counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Hagendoorn thinking. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richard Hagendoorn. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hawk drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Check out the look on Hawk's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Loman with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Spicer to score with a decent uppercut. Spicer takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Loman shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Loman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Spicer is in a horrible position here. Loman smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
A nice elbow there by Loman. This has been an exciting period of action! Loman softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and Spicer is out cold! Loman jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Beefcake holds on and takes a little breather. Ket trying to control but Beefcake is working from the bottom. Ket wants to pass the guard but Beefcake is keeping the position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Beefcake lands the left hand.

4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivok Smolar! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Sergei Dronov and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smolar fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Squires is out of range. Squires fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Squires closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Smolar is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Squires asserts his dominance and retains side control. Smolar wants to get back to his feet but Squires is dominant here and he's now got Smolar's back! Smolar avoids the strikes from Squires. Smolar looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. Squires punishes Smolar with strikes from the back mount. Smolar covering up well under a barage of strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Squires looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
Smolar manages to stand up with Squires still on his back. Eventually Squires drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Squires takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. A combination from Smolar does no damage. Squires decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Squires stalling away here and it's allowed Smolar to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Squires advances to half guard. Squires sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Smolar defending well though. Squires trying to mount his opponent but Smolar defends it. Squires wants to work for an arm triangle but Smolar is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Squires using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Smolar has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Squires shoots in and bounces Smolar off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Smolar wants to stand and escape but Squires is having none of it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Squires passes easily into side control. Nice work. The ground and pound from Squires seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Squires is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Smolar. Smolar lands a left and a right that send Squires crashing to the mat, dazed. Smolar thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Squires is rocked! Smolar walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Squires drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Smolar swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Squires's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Cano shoots for a takedown but Butcher saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Butcher lands a with a good body shot. Cano attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Cano connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Cano fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Cano keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cano throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Butcher's waist but Butcher gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cano off to one side. Cano is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Butcher is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Cano slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Cano works to advance to full mount. Butcher defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Cano can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Butcher is looking to escape. Butcher tries to hold on but Cano postures up. Cano wants to take Butcher's back but he can't do it this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Cano has control of Butcher's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Butcher regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Butcher is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Cano shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Butcher defends it nicely. Butcher throws a lazy right hand but Cano sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Mikhail looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Nice sprawl there from Mikhail as Santiago shoots in. Mikhail fails in his attempt to clinch. Mikhail tries to close the distance and clinch up but Santiago swats him away and circles back towards the center. Nice defenses there by Mikhail. The fight stays on the outside here - Mikhail looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Santiago looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Mikhail! Santiago throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Mikhail because Santiago loaded up on that one. Santiago lands a heavy elbow. Santiago has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mikhail's face.

It looks like Vladimir Mikhail has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mikhail takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Santiago's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
