The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steiner scores with a takedown into Pattenson's guard. Steiner throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Steiner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pattenson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Steiner has managed to get both his arms back between Pattenson's legs - danger averted. Pattenson has momentary wrist control but Steiner slips an elbow through the middle. Pattenson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Steiner is one step ahead there. Steiner scoring with some ground and pound. Steiner postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Steiner postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Steiner drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Steiner jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Pattenson controls Steiner momentarily but Steiner frees himself. Steiner is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pattenson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pattenson has escaped and now he's on top! Steiner looking for a guillotine here but Pattenson defends easily.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steiner working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pattenson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pattenson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Steiner will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Steiner is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pattenson is aware though and is defending well. Pattenson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Pattenson wants to control from the top but Steiner keeps moving. Steiner is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Pattenson frees his head nicely. Oh but Steiner has switched to an armbar! Pattenson is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
