The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sylvia shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gracie defends it nicely.
Sylvia wants to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Gracie. No joy for Sylvia on that attempt.
Sylvia throws a head kick but Gracie moves out of range.

Gracie closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sylvia to the mat! Sylvia manages to get full guard.
Gracie is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Gracie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sylvia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gracie's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Gracie must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Santos kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is ASAP. Kross Burns looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Valasquez postures up in Slice's guard and throws a big left but Slice blocks it.

Valasquez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Valasquez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Valasquez postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Slice is looking to regain half guard here but Valasquez keeps moving and retains side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Valasquez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Slice sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Valasquez somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chulo Valasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Slice fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Valasquez looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Slice looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Slice lands a glancing blow to the side of Valasquez's head.
Slice cracks Valasquez with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Valasquez falls to his knees and Slice doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Forrest Slice!
