The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bates ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Pasanen wants to clinch up but Bates keeps it at a distance. Pasanen fails with a takedown attempt. Bates lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pasanen circles away quickly and effectively. Bates swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Pasanen lands with a straight right. Bates didn't see that one coming. Bates lands with a nice body punch. Bates lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pasanen circles away quickly and effectively. Bates walks into a jab. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Pasanen checks a leg kick. Bates throws a right and a left that both miss. Pasanen uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Bates throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Pasanen sees it coming and avoids it easily. Pasanen lands a nice shot to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Pasanen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Pasanen is working for a submission of some sort.
Pasanen wants to work for an arm triangle but Bates is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pasanen is trying to control the action in half guard but Bates is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Pasanen sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Bates defending well though. Bates really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pasanen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Pasanen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Pasanen trying to control the action but Bates is working from the bottom. Ground and pound from Pasanen. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Pasanen lands a nice short elbow. Pasanen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Bates is defending against the submission attempts here by Pasanen.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Pasanen looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Pasanen looks to land a combination. Bates sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Pasanen goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Bates ducks under a wild hook from Pasanen. Bates feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Pasanen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Pasanen preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Pasanen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Bates postures up in Pasanen's guard and throws a big left but Pasanen blocks it. Pasanen has his hands on Bates's head, controlling the position. This has been an exciting period of action! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pasanen is on top in guard.

The crowd cheers as Pasanen lands an impressive looking overhand right. Bates doesn't seem phased though. Nice uppercut there from Pasanen. Pasanen throws a shot from downtown. Bates moves away and avoids it. The fight stays on the outside here - Pasanen looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Bates wants to clinch. Bates instigates a clinch. Bates has had enough of the clinch but Pasanen keeps him there for the moment. Pasanen drags the fight down to the ground.
Bates wants to stand and escape but instead Pasanen has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Pasanen stays in close to Bates's body and controls the position. Pasanen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pasanen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Pasanen passes Bates's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Pasanen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Bates is not content to let Pasanen control the position. Pasanen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Pasanen slips a nice elbow through Bates's hands, connecting with Bates's forehead.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Pasanen drops an elbow to the side of Bates's head. Bates is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Bates is breathing heavily. Pasanen perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Pasanen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. That's three minutes gone in the round. Pasanen with a couple of short strikes. Pasanen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bates can do to turn this around? Pasanen lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Bates hang on? Pasanen working the ground and pound effectively.
Bates is rocked! Pasanen is going olschool here, as he tries to force Bates to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Bates shrugs it off. Pasanen postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Bates badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Pasanen around the waist but Pasanen pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Pasanen is the winner by TKO! Pasanen jumps onto the ropes and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garvin fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McFalls avoids it really well and circles away. McFalls tries to keep at a distance but Garvin has taken the fight into the clinch. Garvin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McFalls smiles and moves away.
Garvin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McFalls is fending him off so far but Garvin persists. Nope, McFalls circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Garvin. That's going to take a lot out of him. McFalls throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Garvin on the side of the head. Garvin uses good head movement to avoid the hook from McFalls. Garvin just misses with a punch to the body.
Garvin feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to McFalls's calf. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! McFalls lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
It looks like Paul Garvin has been cut. Garvin could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. The fight stays on the outside here - Garvin looks like he's thinking about clinching though. McFalls dances in with a quick combination. Garvin is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from McFalls snaps Garvin's head back. Garvin stumbles backwards against the ropes. McFalls steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Garvin's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Garvin just didn't come prepared.

Macintye rolls over backwards and springs off the ropes and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Starsmore finish him?!
