The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Lopescu with that takedown attempt. A combination from Lopescu does no damage. Lopescu shoots in but no luck this time. Lopescu looks gassed! Lopescu shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Balboa but Balboa pushes him off and we're back to square one. Rocky Balboa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dimitry Lopescu. Balboa scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Balboa is working for a submission of some sort.
Lopescu is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Balboa pulls his head out easily. Lopescu is not content to let Balboa control the position. Balboa wants to work for an arm triangle but Lopescu is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Balboa looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Lopescu is trying to maintain the position but Balboa is very close to passing his half guard. Balboa is taking a breather. Lopescu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Lopescu wants to get back to his feet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Lopescu keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Lopescu shoots in but Balboa avoids the takedown attempt easily. Lopescu decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Lopescu is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Balboa defends it well. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Balboa regains full guard. Nicely done. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lopescu is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Lopescu lands a couple of decent looking shots. Balboa could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Lopescu gets to his feet - Balboa follows without any prompting. Balboa shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lopescu's guard. Lopescu is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Lopescu is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Balboa is aware though and is defending well. Lopescu utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Balboa drops back looking for a leg! Lopescu is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lopescu manages to kick Balboa off! Balboa jumps back into Lopescu's guard. Balboa is sitting in close to Lopescu's body. Lopescu has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Balboa is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Balboa is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Lopescu.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maia closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Maia working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Handle wants to control but Maia postures up. Handle manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Handle is trying to maintain the position but Maia is very close to passing his half guard. Maia is looking for a kimura but Handle is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Maia to get the leverage. Maia is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Maia looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That was a close round but I would say that Don Handle will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Handle shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Maia napping and manages to drive through into side control! Handle working away. Maia is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Handle off and has taken his back! Maia is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Maia is breathing heavily. Handle tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Maia goes for an armbar but Handle turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Handle.

Handle trying to control but Maia is working from the bottom. Handle slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Handle has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Handle trying to control but Maia is working from the bottom. Maia looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sparrow lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Charuto sprawling to the canvas. Sparrow follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Charuto hang on?
It looks like Alan Charuto has been cut. Charuto has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sparrow is working away from the top position though. Sparrow wants to stand up but Charuto is controlling the position.
