Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Mir! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Enrico Zamora! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zamora fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mir sprawls well initially but Zamora persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Zamora passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mir! Zamora is landing with some decent strikes but Mir is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Mir in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Zamora with shots to the head and body - Mir looks very uncomfortable down there. Zamora scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Mir?
Mir manages to regain half guard. Good work. Zamora missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Zamora scoring with strikes to the body and head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Zamora looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mir with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Mir keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Mir trying to hold on to Zamora's head to control him but Zamora postures up.
Zamora not landing any meaningful shots this time. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Zamora lands a nice short elbow. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Zamora connects with a nice short shot to Mir's temple.

Zamora not landing any meaningful shots this time. Zamora thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Zamora lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Zamora throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Mir is looking for a sweep. Zamora is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Mir trying to hold on to Zamora's head to control him but Zamora postures up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Zamora fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Zamora trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Zamora distracts Mir with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Zamora forces his way into half guard. Zamora missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Zamora not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Zamora looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Mir wants to improve his position but Zamora is controlling well.

Mir working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Zamora. Mir will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Zamora stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mir swivels though and keeps the full guard. Zamora with a nice head shot there. Zamora is pushing down on Mir's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mir is fighting to maintain full guard but Zamora has managed to sneak the leg through. Zamora scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Zamora is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Mir reverses the position - he's now on top in Zamora's guard. Zamora escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mir gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Mir trying to control but Zamora is working from the bottom. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mir tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mir has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Mir wants to stand but Zamora is controlling his arm. Zamora is looking for a sweep. Zamora is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mir asserts his dominance and retains side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zamora can do anything to dispel that myth. Mir tries for a kimura but Zamora is defending well. Zamora wants to control but Mir postures up.

Zamora is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Zamora looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Mir prevents Zamora from standing back up.
Zamora wants to get back to full guard. Zamora wants to get back to full guard but Mir has passed into side control. Mir wants to finish this one by submission but Zamora is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mir. Zamora keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mir is going olschool here, as he tries to force Zamora to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Zamora shrugs it off. Zamora manages to regain half guard. Good work. Zamora punching from the bottom.
Zamora is trying to stand up here but Mir is controlling him well. Frank Mir has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Enrico Zamora is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Mir looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Paphitis might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Vorhees has got the better of the exchanges. Vorhees is looking to wear down Paphitis with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Vorhees bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Irvin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown.
