Pettis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Takoma circles away quickly and effectively.
Pettis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sladen Shockner!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDermott lands with a straight right. Shockner didn't see that one coming.

It looks like Sladen Shockner has been cut.
McDermott misses with a straight left.
Shockner tries to clinch
enabling McDermott to counter with a crisp jab.
Shockner throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McDermott.
Shockner falls off balance throwing a combination
and McDermott makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McDermott throws a series of punches but Shockner moves out of range.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McDermott accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McDermott wants to stand but Shockner has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

McDermott got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shockner has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McDermott has managed to get both his arms back between Shockner's legs - danger averted.

McDermott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shockner swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Shockner is trying to keep McDermott in close.
McDermott wants to control from the top but Shockner keeps moving.
McDermott is pushing down on Shockner's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shockner is fighting to maintain full guard but McDermott has managed to sneak the leg through.
McDermott wants to stand but Shockner has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

McDermott decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Shockner shoots in and drives through. McDermott sprawls well.

Shockner darts in trying to clinch
and McDermott counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Shockner tries to clinch but fails miserably
and McDermott counters with a one-two to the body.
McDermott misses with a right hand
and Shockner counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. McDermott is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and McDermott lands a stunning uppercut that sends Shockner to the mat!

This has been an exciting period of action!
McDermott works his way into full mount!
Shockner is trying desperately to improve position.
Shockner wants to control but McDermott is having none of it.
McDermott wants to control the pace but Shockner is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McDermott is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Shockner is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Shockner manages to regain half guard. Good work.
McDermott is keen to just control but Shockner is a slippery customer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McDermott is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
McDermott takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Shockner swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and McDermott counters with a three punch combo that has Shockner backing up. Shockner nods at McDermott to acknowledge the strikes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shockner looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
McDermott tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shockner was well out of range. Poor timing from McDermott.
Shockner tests McDermott's chin there with a solid looking shot.

McDermott fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
McDermott ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McDermott lunges at Shockner with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Shockner's hand.

Shockner is still in real trouble! Can McDermott finish him?

McDermott gets to his feet. Shockner looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
McDermott drops Shockner with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Shockner! McDermott dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
