Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nico Jensen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Cozad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Charles Cozad told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nico Jensen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charles Cozad! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cozad throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jensen tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cozad is in Jensen's guard. Cozad's corner is telling him to maintain position. Cozad stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jensen swivels though and keeps the full guard. Jensen is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Cozad is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Nico Jensen just wasn't active enough. Cozad fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Jensen. Cozad throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jensen tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cozad is in Jensen's guard. Cozad showing good wrestling skills to control the position. It looks like Cozad might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Jensen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cozad on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cozad working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Cozad engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Charles Cozad hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Jensen tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Cozad counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Jensen is lucky that one didn't land flush. Jensen gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Cozad counters with a low kick, right behind Jensen 's knee. Cozad looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jensen! Jensen taking shots to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cozad takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Cozad with good strikes from the mount here! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cozad tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Cozad's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cozad working for a guillotine from mount but Jensen is in no mood to give up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cozad postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Jensen looks a forlorn figure.
Cozad is landing with some decent strikes but Jensen is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Cozad controlling the position easily from mount. Let's hope that Cozad has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cozad landing strikes, looking to finish! Cozad tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Cozad is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jensen is surviving well by controlling Cozad's body position as best he can. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Cozad is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Jensen is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Jensen flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Cozad anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Jensen and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Cozad slips an arm under Jensen chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Cozad has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Cozad is squeezing on Jensen like an anaconda would it's prey. Jensen fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Amassada misses the body punch and Matumba cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Amassada tries to clinch up and Matumba connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Amassada falls off balance throwing a combination
and Matumba connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Amassada is rocked! Amassada fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Amassada looks gassed! Amassada throws a combination that misses and Amassada takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Amassada tries to clinch but Matumba moves away and Matumba counters with a nice uppercut. Amassada is still on wobbly legs! Can Matumba finish him? Matumba misses with a wild combination.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Evans.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Evans as he jumps to the side. Silva closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Silva is looking for a kimura here.
Silva is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Silva is trying to work for a kimura but Evans is defending well.
Silva frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Evans is breathing heavily. Silva is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Evans is surviving well by controlling Silva's body position as best he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva has control of Evans's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Evans regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Silva looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Silva works his way to his opponent's back.
Silva is cranking Evans's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Evans! He's tightened the choke and Evans is tapping out!

Kozak has closed the distance and engaged Silva in a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Silva's face as he tries to break the clinch. Kozak stalling.
Kozak's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Kozak shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silva but Silva pushes him off and we're back to square one. Silva scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Kozak uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Silva has time to react. Kozak avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kozak shoots in and gets a takedown into Silva's guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kozak working some strikes from top position. Kozak has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kozak is stalling in the full guard. Kozak scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Kozak keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Silva's head. Silva wants to stand up but Kozak is controlling him. Kozak has Silva pulled in close to control his posture. Kozak is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Silva tries to kick Kozak off but Kozak keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Silva looks gassed!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva has one foot on Kozak's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Kozak closes the distance and clinches up with Silva, looking for a takedown. Kozak pushes Silva against the cage but Silva circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Adrian Kozak. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kozak turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Silva stuffs the takedown attempt from Kozak. Kozak gets slowly back to his feet. Silva throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Silva lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Silva. Savio Silva is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Silva swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kozak counters with a thumping low kick. Kozak closes the distance and clinches up with Silva, looking for a takedown. Kozak pushes Silva against the cage but Silva circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Silva looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Kozak closes the distance and pushes Silva back into the cage. Kozak dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Kozak has Silva pressed against the cage, preventing Silva from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Kozak keeps control of Silva as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Silva has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Silva looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Kozak is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Silva can't fight it off and eventually Kozak manages to take the fight to the floor. Silva looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Kozak advances to half guard.

Kozak looking to break Silva's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Silva remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Kozak will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Silva holding both Kozak 's hands and preventing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dos Santos closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dos Santos working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Dos Santos is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Akers sees it coming and defends easily. Dos Santos prevents Akers from improving his position. Akers blocking the ground and pound attempt from Dos Santos. Akers keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Dos Santos with the ground and pound but Akers uses the opportunity to regain guard. Dos Santos throwing strikes from guard but Akers blocks nicely. Dos Santos trying to stand up but can't free himself from Akers's guard. Akers trying to control the position here. Dos Santos has gone for a leg lock! Akers slips out almost immediately though and dives into Dos Santos's guard.

Akers has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dos Santos is proving hard to escape from. Dos Santos manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Akers manages to get himself to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Dos Santos is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Dos Santos postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Akers is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dos Santos, into his guard. Dos Santos is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Dos Santos turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Dos Santos manages to end up in side control. Dos Santos tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dos Santos is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Akers has escaped the position, nice work there. Dos Santos tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dos Santos has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Akers is looking to regain half guard here but Dos Santos keeps moving and retains side control. Dos Santos stands up and we're back to a striking position. Dos Santos misses with a takedown and Akers cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Dos Santos shoots and misses letting Akers counter with a right hand. Dos Santos is breathing heavily.

Nope, Akers circles away and we're back to standing. Dos Santos misses with a takedown attempt and Akers counters by clinching up. Donald Akers is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Akers stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Dos Santos has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Akers avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Maddox follows him to the mat into side control.
