1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nathan Edwards! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Meed gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Edwards counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Meed's guard now. Meed preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Meed keeping moving, preventing Edwards from controlling successfully. Meed is trying to control the position but Edwards postures up. Meed is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Edwards is aware though and is defending well. Edwards wants to get up but he can't break Meed's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Edwards trying to control the position from guard on top but Meed is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Edwards is looking to stand up but Meed won't let him. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Edwards throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Edwards missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Edwards tries to free his leg and advance position but Meed is retaining full guard. Edwards throws a strike but Meed rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Meed drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Meed jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Edwards really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Meed. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Meed trying to control the position from guard on top but Edwards is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Meed is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Edwards defends it well. Meed is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Meed seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Edwards does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Meed looks for a takedown but Edwards sprawls well. Edwards shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Edwards showed some decent athleticism there. Edwards thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Meed's head. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kelly on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. A jab from Kelly does it's job there.
It looks like Stephen Williams has been cut. Kelly scores with a three punch combo!
Williams takes one to the side of the head.
Williams tries to clinch but Kelly moves out of range. Williams closes the distance looking to clinch and Kelly moves into the clinch. Williams prevents the takedown attempt.

The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Williams tries to clinch and Kelly counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Kelly shoots for a double leg takedown but Williams sprawls well. He's pushed Kelly's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. The fight stays on the outside here - Williams looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Williams tries to clinch up. Williams closes the distance looking to clinch and Kelly counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Williams wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Williams has his takedown stuffed and Vera counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Williams's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Vera pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Vera tries to clinch up. Vera scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Williams is breathing heavily. Williams has his takedown stuffed and Vera cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Williams is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! An inside leg kick lands from Vera. Williams is still on wobbly legs! Can Vera finish him? Williams is trying desperately to land a takedown but Vera is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Williams.

Vera tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Williams manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Vera dips to his left and cracks Williams with an uppercut! Vera ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Williams tries to keep at a distance but Vera has taken the fight into the clinch. Vera stops a takedown attempt from Williams.
Kid Vera has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Williams. Vera tries to land knees in the clinch but Williams avoids the damage to the body. Vera is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Williams can do to turn this around? Vera is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Vera can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight. Vera doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Vera is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Vera breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Williams misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Vera lands with a thumping leg kick.

Vera tries a low kick but Williams avoids it. An inside leg kick lands from Vera. Vera lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Vera scores with a head kick. Williams tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Vera swings away with a leg kick that misses. Vera motions for Williams to come forward. Vera throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Vera.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Vera misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Williams.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ras. Penn leaves Ras with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Penn throws a jab when Ras was well out of range. Ras scores a takedown into full mount! Penn is in a horrible position here. Ras smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Ras cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

It looks like Cj Penn has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ras takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Ras cracks Penn with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Penn is still in real trouble! Can Ras finish him? Penn tries to hold on but Ras postures up. Penn seems to have recovered his senses. Ras loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Penn scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Ras land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Ras stands and salutes the crowd.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shirwin is adopting a defensive guard. Alunan wants to control from the top but Shirwin keeps moving.

The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Shirwin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Shirwin! Alunan sneaks back into half guard. Shirwin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alunan keeps working. Alunan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shirwin is working away from the top position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Shirwin trying to control from Alunan's half guard. Alunan has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Alunan looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Shirwin throwing strikes from guard but Alunan blocks nicely. Shirwin stays in close to Alunan's body and controls the position. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Shirwin stays in close to Alunan's body and controls the position. Let's hope that Shirwin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's three minutes gone in the round. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Alunan manages to get back to half guard. Shirwin not doing much here.
Steve Shirwin has got the better of the ground game so far. Alunan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shirwin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shirwin's back! Shirwin tries to escape the position.
Alunan is working for a rear naked choke. Shirwin is not defending it well and Alunan has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Shirwin refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Shirwin's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Alves is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Public to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Public shrugs it off. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. BOOM! Alves connects with a massive shot to the dome!
