Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A momentary lapse in concentration from Lopez enables Elite to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lopez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Elite has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Lopez has his foot on Elite's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Elite works his way back into a safe position though. Lopez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Elite trying to control the position from guard on top but Lopez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lopez is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Lopez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Elite is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Lopez is trying to drag Elite to the mat but Elite just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Elite taking a breather. Elite tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lopez smiles and moves away.
Elite drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Lopez wants to stand but Elite is controlling the position. Elite looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Elite throws a strike but Lopez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Lopez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Elite has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lopez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Elite wants to stand and escape but Lopez is having none of it. Lopez controlling from the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lopez stands and throws Elite's legs to the side, diving into side control. Elite pushes Lopez away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Lopez gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Lopez landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Lopez has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Elite! Lopez wants to control the pace but Elite is squirming around nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lopez lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Elite hang on? Elite's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Elite is trying desperately to improve position. Lopez scoring with strikes but Elite is staying in there. Lopez controlling from the full mount. Lopez unloading with bombs! Lopez with shots to the head and body - Elite looks very uncomfortable down there. Lopez trying to control but Elite is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Elite taking shots to the head. Elite is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Lopez connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The referee warns Elite that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lopez raining down hammerfists from mount. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Lopez postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Elite looks a forlorn figure.
Elite tries to get back to half guard but can't. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Elite tries to clinch up. Elite moves in looking to clinch but Lopez pushes him off. North Dakota Elite is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Elite is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Lopez's half guard. Lopez is trying to maintain the position but Elite is very close to passing his half guard. Lopez makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lopez. Lopez keeping moving, preventing Elite from controlling successfully. Lopez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Elite's guard. Lopez trying to control but Elite is working from the bottom. Lopez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice uppercut there from Elite. Lopez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Elite is trying to defend but Lopez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Lopez is breathing heavily. Lopez stops Elite from getting back to his feet.

Lopez decides to stand and escape the position. Lopez doesn't succeed with the takedown and Elite counters with a shoot takedown. Lopez fights it but they end up in guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Elite would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Elite stops Lopez from standing up.

He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Elite throws and elbow that misses. Lopez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Elite's guard. Nice move by Lopez! Lopez trying to control but Elite is working from the bottom. Elite wants to stand and escape but Lopez is having none of it. Lopez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Elite's guard. Elite on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Elite tries to get out of the position.

Lopez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Elite is not content to let Lopez control the position. Elite is trying to stand up here but Lopez is controlling him well. Lopez working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Lopez lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Lopez is looking to take a break and control but Elite is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Lopez prevents Elite from standing back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Lopez trying to control the action but Elite is working from the bottom. Elite has a hand on Lopez's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Lopez takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Lopez landing strikes from the mount and Elite is in trouble! Elite is trying to escape the mount.
Lopez looking to finish Elite with some ground and pound. This is bad for Elite! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Lopez lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Elite hang on? Elite tries to lock up and control but Lopez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Jorge Lopez will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Lopez has his takedown stuffed and Elite counters with a nice double leg into guard. Lopez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Elite controls the pace. Lopez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Elite connects with a couple of short punches. Lopez has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Elite off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Lopez has his takedown stuffed and Elite decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lopez's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Elite throwing strikes but missing. Elite wants to stand and escape but instead Lopez has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Elite wants to sweep here but Lopez controlling him for the moment. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Elite is looking to stand up but Lopez isn't so interested in that idea. Elite working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lopez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lopez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Lopez is stalling in the full guard. Lopez stands and steps away. Elite gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Elite shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Lopez is looking to escape.

Elite looking to sit in guard and control but Lopez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Lopez passes Elite's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Elite tries to roll over but Lopez keeps him under control. Lopez prevents Elite from standing back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Elite is trying to maintain the position but Lopez is very close to passing his half guard. Elite throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Lopez wants to take a breather but Elite is having none of it. Jorge Lopez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Lopez is thwarting Elite's attempts to control the position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Lopez closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Elite's guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Elite has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lopez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. North Dakota Elite has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Lopez is pushing down on Elite's leg trying to pass to half guard. Elite is fighting to maintain full guard but Lopez has managed to sneak the leg through.
