Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Crusty Pelican! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Liam Machin! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Machin moves to clinch but Pelican breaks away and Pelican counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Machin's guard now. Machin trying to control the position.
Pelican lands a couple of decent looking shots. Pelican stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Machin swivels though and keeps the full guard. Pelican throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Machin works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Pelican scoring with punches to the head and body. Pelican might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Pelican in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Pelican prevents Machin from getting back to his feet. Machin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Pelican landing some decent shots from guard. Machin wants to get back to his feet but Pelican is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Machin is trying to keep Pelican in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Pelican is fighting to break Machin's control of his arms but Machin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Pelican throws and elbow that misses. Machin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pelican's guard. Nice move by Machin! Pelican keeping moving, preventing Machin from controlling successfully. Machin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Pelican throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Machin escapes and throws Pelican's legs to the side, diving into side control! Machin tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Pelican tries to buck Machin off but Machin is having none of it.

Pelican lands a punch to the side of the head from the back. Machin rolls, trying to escape but Pelican keeps control of the position.

Machin covering up well under a series of strikes from Pelican. Pelican punches Machin on the ear. Pelican is working the ground and pound. Can Machin escape? Pelican is trying to stick to Machin's back but Machin is turning into Pelican. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Pelican's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Machin.

Machin trying to control but Pelican is working from the bottom. Pelican is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Machin defends well. Pelican had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Machin defends it easily. Machin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Liam Machin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Machin falls off balance throwing a combination

Machin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pelican moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Pelican takes a kick to the side of the head. Machin tries to bum rush Pelican with a series of wild strikes but Pelican uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Pelican scores with a one two! Machin had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Pelican takes a body punch but keeps moving. Liam Machin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Pelican throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Machin cracks Pelican with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Pelican tries to move into range but Machin moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. A swing and a miss from Machin. Machin tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Pelican counters with a lovely straight right hand! Machin wants to clinch but Pelican slips to the side and Pelican counters with a three punch combo that has Machin backing up. Machin nods at Pelican to acknowledge the strikes. Pelican throws a hook but Machin avoids it easily. Machin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Pelican counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Machin thinking.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sloppy strikes from Machin. Those never looked like landing. Machin looks to throw the jab but Pelican is out of range. Pelican throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Machin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Machin swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Pelican counters with an inside leg kick. Pelican tries to score a power double leg takedown but Machin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pelican somewhat. Machin misses with a looping right. Machin delivers a nice body kick. Machin works over Pelican's head and body with a nice combination.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Machin throws a left and a right that both miss
and Pelican counters with a single leg into guard. Machin didn't expect that. Crusty Pelican overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Pelican throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Pelican with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Machin keeping moving, preventing Pelican from controlling successfully. Machin controls Pelican momentarily but Pelican frees himself. Pelican trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Machin manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Machin trying to control but Pelican is working from the bottom. Machin tries to stand but Pelican is controlling from the bottom. Machin preventing the sweep. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pelican circles away from the clinch attempt and Pelican connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Machin misses with an uppercut. Pelican blocks a head kick by Machin.

Machin tries to clinch but fails miserably and Pelican counters with a low kick, right behind Machin 's knee. Pelican throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Machin sees it coming and avoids it easily. Machin moves to clinch but Pelican breaks away and Pelican counters with a body kick that stops Machin in his tracks momentarily. Machin moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Machin fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Pelican has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Pelican is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Machin tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Pelican counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Machin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Machin throws a right and a left that both miss. Pelican lands with a thumping leg kick.
Machin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Machin throws a head kick that misses and Pelican counters with a single leg into guard. Machin didn't expect that. Pelican pushes down on Machin's leg and manages to get into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Machin avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pelican. Pelican is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Pelican is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Machin works his way to full guard. Good work. Machin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Machin had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pelican defends it easily. Gil shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Gil turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Gil throws a hook but Man avoids it easily. Gil scores with a takedown into Man's guard. Gil throws a big right hand that misses. Gil postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Man is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gil, into his guard. Gil has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Man accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Man wants to stand and escape but instead Gil has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Man looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. A chopping leg kick lands by Gil. Gil wants to slow Man down by chopping away at his legs. Man walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Gil feints and then cracks Man's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Man down. Gil attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Karel Gil seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gil jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Joe Man is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Gil fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Man looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Man misses with a leg kick. Gil connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Gil lands a jab to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Gil digs a good body shot into Man's ribs. A head kick misses from Gil. Gil feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Man's calf. Gil throws a body kick that misses. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Gil, as that shot connected.
Nice jab there from Gil. Gil wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Man takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Man's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Gil slips under a jab from Man. Gil jabs at Man's body. Man is breathing heavily. Gil wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Gil tries to land a leg kick but Man saw it coming and moves away.
Man walks into a jab. Gil tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Man is able to avoid easily. Gil lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Excellent takedown into side control there by Gil. Gil tries to score with some ground and pound. Man controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Man is looking to reverse the position. Gil tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gil has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Gil is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Man knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Man takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Gil connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Man's hands. Gil changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Gil fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Man throws a predictable looking body shot
and Gil counters with a lovely shot to the body. Man throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Gil makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Man looks to land a combination but Gil avoids it well. Gil scores with a kick to the midsection. Gil digs a good body shot into Man's ribs. Gil cracks Man with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Gil is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Gil!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Goss gets a takedown into half guard. Goss is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Blais is just riding it out for now. Goss eventually gives up the hold. Goss tries to pass the half guard into mount. Blais knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Goss missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Goss looks to land a strike but Blais avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Blais escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Goss gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Goss with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's one minute gone in the round. Goss keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Blais's head. Goss loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Goss drops back, looking for a kneebar! Blais looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Blais looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Blais! Blais tries to score with some ground and pound. Goss controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Goss is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Goss takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Blais is looking for a kimura but Goss is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Blais to get the leverage. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Nice work. Wainui wants to control from the top but Fletcher keeps moving.

Fletcher might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Wainui kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Wainui thows a big elbow that misses.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Good exchange - Fletcher coming out on top. Fletcher turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Fletcher throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Fletcher throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wainui does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Good leg kick by Fletcher there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Black swings wildly with an uppercut but Rolf uses good head movement to avoid it. Rolf blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lucas Black. Well Rolf has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Alves shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Alves throws a jab when le fay was well out of range. le fay gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Alves counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. le fay throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That could spell trouble for Alves ! le fay trying to control but Alves is having none of it. Alves is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Bubbles thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Greywar is looking to regain half guard here but Bubbles keeps moving and retains side control. Bubbles tries to score with some ground and pound. Greywar controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
