The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lawson throws a right hand that Van Defoe ducks under and follows up with a left that Van Defoe also avoids with ease.
Lawson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Van Defoe.
Lawson scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Van Defoe tries to clinch but Lawson is having none of it.
Lawson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Van Defoe shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lawson defends it nicely.
Van Defoe looks gassed!
Lawson stalks Van Defoe and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Van Defoe's face. Van Defoe staggers backwards, shaken.

It looks like Rafael Van Defoe has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lawson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Van Defoe looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Lawson connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Van Defoe! He's out on his feet! Lawson rushes in and drops Van Defoe with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Szyslak throws a hook to the side of Flang's head but Flang sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Flang has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Flang there as he acknowledges the shot.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Flang counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Szyslak is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Flang dives into side control.
Szyslak wants to get back to his feet but Flang drags him back down.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Flang tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Flang swings around for an armbar but Szyslak sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Flang's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Szyslak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Flang is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Szyslak's half guard.
Flang wants to free his trapped foot but Szyslak is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Flang uses his free foot to push down on Szyslak's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Szyslak.

Flang moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Szyslak has worked his arm free - good work by Szyslak!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Flang wants to work for an arm triangle but Szyslak is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Greg Flang.
