3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Aurelio Miguel! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miguel shoots for a takedown but Cruz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Cruz misses with a takedown and Miguel counters with a shoot takedown. Cruz fights it but they end up in guard. Miguel working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Miguel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Miguel throws a strike but Cruz rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Cruz wants to stand but Miguel is controlling his posture from full guard. Cruz trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Cruz with a flurry of punches that miss. Miguel is looking to stand up but Cruz isn't so interested in that idea. Cruz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Cruz is looking to stand up but Miguel won't let him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Miguel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Cruz keeping moving, preventing Miguel from controlling successfully. Cruz wriggles free and stands up. Miguel closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Miguel prevents Cruz from escaping the position. Miguel is looking to take a break and control but Cruz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Miguel is trying to ground and pound but Cruz uses the momentary lack of control by Miguel to regain half guard. Miguel missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Cruz is controlling Miguel's posture. Miguel throws a strike but Cruz rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Miguel looks gassed! Miguel wants to stand up but Cruz is controlling him. Cruz throwing strikes from guard but Miguel blocks nicely. Cruz trying to control the position from guard on top but Miguel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz is in close to Miguel's body, working some short punches and elbows. Miguel preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Cruz not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Miguel wants to get back to his feet but Cruz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Cruz misses with a takedown enabling Miguel to counter with a crisp jab. Cruz closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Cruz is looking for a kimura but Miguel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cruz to get the leverage. Cruz wants to pass to mount but Miguel is defending the position. Cruz stops Miguel from getting back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miguel pushes Cruz off but Cruz dives into side control.
Cruz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Miguel has escaped the position, nice work there. Miguel is trying to get back to his feet. Check out the look on Cruz's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Miguel pushes Cruz away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cruz gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Miguel is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Miguel is not content to let Cruz control the position. Cruz working the head with strikes. Cruz trying to control the position but Miguel is working away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Vjay Cruz will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Cruz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Miguel, pushing him back against the ropes. Cruz jumps guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cruz holds on and takes a little breather. Cruz trying to keep a closed guard but Miguel is proving a slippery customer.
Miguel postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Cruz lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Miguel! Cruz scoring with strikes but Miguel is staying in there. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Miguel can do anything to dispel that myth. Miguel is breathing heavily. Cruz sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Vjay Cruz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Miguel is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kotaro decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Kotaro thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Fredille's head. Kotaro is working for a kimura but Fredille is defending it quite comfortably.

Fredille knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Kotaro wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fredille keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Fredille shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Fredille with a flurry of punches that miss. Kotaro has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fredille can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Fredille must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kotaro working for a triangle but Fredille defends it easily.
Fredille stands and throws Kotaro's legs to the side, diving into side control. Fredille lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Kotaro regains half guard. Kotaro wants to improve his position but Fredille is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Kotaro gets full guard. Kotaro is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Kotaro has his foot on Fredille's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fredille works his way back into a safe position though. Fredille would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Kotaro looking for a guillotine here but Fredille defends easily.
Kotaro had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fredille defends it easily. Kotaro is breathing heavily. Fredille got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kotaro has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fredille has managed to get both his arms back between Kotaro's legs - danger averted.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fredille trying to control but Kotaro is working from the bottom. Fredille stands up over Kotaro, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Kotaro tries to land a sweep but no joy. Fredille really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kotaro. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kotaro manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fredille manages to get himself to full guard.
Kotaro is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Kotaro stopping the sweep attempt from Fredille. Kotaro wants to pass the guard but Fredille is keeping the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Kotaro advances to half guard. Kotaro is working for a kimura but Fredille is defending it quite comfortably.

Kotaro gets the takedown into side control. Fredille struggling a bit here. Kotaro grinds an elbow into Fredille's temple. Kotaro is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Fredille is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Kotaro has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Fredille! Kotaro wants to take his opponent's back but Fredille doesn't allow it. Kotaro trying to control but Fredille is having none of it. Kotaro takes Fredille's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Fredille is in trouble. Fredille is breathing heavily.

He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Fredille has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Castillo leaves Guilly with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Guilly shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Guilly throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Guilly doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Castillo slaps away a takedown attempt from Guilly, before circling back to the center of the mat. Guilly is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Castillo's half guard. Castillo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Castillo pushes Guilly off and scrambles back to his feet.
Guilly should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Castillo lands with a nice combination. Guilly backs away looking to recover. Guilly dodges the punch combination from Castillo.
Guilly dives in and grabs Castillo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Castillo pushes down on Guilly's head and hops out. Jose Luis Castillo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Guilly. Nice sprawl there from Castillo as Guilly shoots in.

Payll is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Andrews couldn't care less - he's delighted!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kahn tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Guzman swivels and escapes. Guzman tries to clinch but Kahn is having none of it. Guzman throws a half hearted mid kick. Esteban Guzman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kahn. Guzman scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Kahn circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kahn closes the distance but Guzman moves to the side and Guzman counters with a leg kick. Kahn has Guzman up against the ropes in a clinch.
