Undercard bout

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between War Tank (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brett Larson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brett Larson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Tank.
Larson is trying to get back to half guard.
Larson struggling a bit here.
Larson is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Check out the look on Tank's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Tank lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Larson down.
Tank is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Larson's shoulder. That is not cool.
Larson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tank wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
You can see the frustration on Larson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Larson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Tank asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Tank tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tank has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Larson manages to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tank stops Larson from getting back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Larson is trying to stand up here but Tank is controlling him well.

Tank is looking for a kimura but Larson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tank to get the leverage.

Larson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Tank's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee asks Tank politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Tank prefers to stall for the moment though.
Tank has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Larson is pushing Tank's head away, looking to escape. Tank manages to hold on to the position though.
Larson is looking to reverse the position.
Tank wants to lay and pray for a moment but Larson keeps working.

Larson is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Tank is staying active.
Tank moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Larson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Tank has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of War Tank.

Tank closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Larson did well to prevent Tank getting side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Tank has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Larson is working away from the top position though.

Tank is pressing down on Larson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Tank looking to hit a scissor sweep but Larson is one step ahead there.
Tank manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Larson manages to get himself to full guard.
Tank's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Tank pushing down on Larson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Larson kicks Tank off and gets back to his feet.
Tank showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Larson.
Tank will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Tank looks to score with a jab to the body but Larson is just out of range.
Larson tries to close the distance and clinch but Tank swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tank shoots in for a takedown but Larson shows good takedown defense.
War Tank seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tank feints and as Larson raises his hands in defense, Tank changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tank fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Larson wants to clinch up but Tank keeps it at a distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Tank.
A decent looking cross lands there for Larson.
Tank walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

It looks like War Tank has been cut.

Larson has one foot on Tank's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Tank feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Larson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Tank stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Larson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Larson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tank!

Tank is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Larson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Tank is squirming around, avoiding Larson's attempts to control the action.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Larson prevents Tank from getting the reversal.

Larson wants to control the pace but Tank is squirming around nicely.

Larson looking to control but Tank is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Larson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Tank kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Tank gets back to half guard.
War Tank is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Brett Larson wasn't active enough on the ground.
Larson is looking to score with low kicks.
Brett Larson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Tank dives in and scores a takedown into Larson's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Tank has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to War Tank.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tank, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Gold kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Bullet with a name. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Baker working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Gold turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Baker off and cradles Gold's limp body as Baker celebrates with his corner.

Bummer looks to land a combination but Yoijimbo avoids it well.
Bummer should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Bummer dives in and grabs Yoijimbo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Yoijimbo pushes down on Bummer's head and hops out.

Robert Bummer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Yoijimbo lands an elbow that stopped Bummer in his tracks for a moment.

It looks like Robert Bummer has been cut.

Bummer is trying to drag Yoijimbo to the mat but Yoijimbo just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Hojo Yoijimbo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robert Bummer.

Yoijimbo lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

That has opened up Robert Bummer's cut even more.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bummer has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Yoijimbo avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Banks fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Four avoids it really well and circles away.
