The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Batista shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cormier but Cormier pushes him off and we're back to square one. Horrible takedown by Batista or perhaps it was just good defense by Cormier which made him look bad. Batista fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Batista. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cormier defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Batista. Batista bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Batista goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Christopher manages to end up in side control. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Christopher lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. LaVey throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land. LaVey is working to avoid the ground and pound but Christopher connects with a decent elbow. Christopher decides to stand back up. Christopher steps back and let's LaVey get back to his feet. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Christopher has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of LaVey's face.

Shalamanov manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Marko looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Wiedman breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Marko gets the takedown into side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Marko wants to control but Wiedman is keeping him busy. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Marko cracks Wiedman with a big right hand but Wiedman just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Marko misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Wiedman has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Marko on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Nice cross by Wiedman. Wiedman forces Marko back against the cage and clinches. Marko is trying to push Wiedman away but Wiedman has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Marko tries to throw a body punch but Wiedman avoids it by throwing Marko back against the cage. Wiedman breaks from the clinch.

Wiedman throws a shot from downtown. Marko moves away and avoids it. Wiedman dips down and scores with a jab to the body. No luck for Marko with that takedown attempt. Marko has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Wiedman. Wiedman finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Jockson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Jockson prevents Ololoshenkov from getting the reversal. Ololoshenkov on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ololoshenkov tries to get out of the position.

Jockson is landing with some decent strikes but Ololoshenkov is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Jockson unloading with bombs! Jockson misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
