Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kyuzo Mifune! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bob Denard! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Shimada and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Denard connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Mifune avoids a kick to the body.
Denard misses with the combination.
Denard rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mifune moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Denard missing with a left hand there. Mifune was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Denard throws a hook but Mifune blocks it. Mifune shoots in for a takedown but Denard shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Mifune chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Denard can pounce on him.
Mifune changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Denard tries to avoid it but Mifune manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Denard to the ground. Denard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Denard closes the distance looking to clinch and Mifune counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mifune is working for a kimura but Denard is defending it quite comfortably.
Mifune is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Denard is just riding it out for now. Mifune eventually gives up the hold.
That's one minute gone in the round. Denard kicks Mifune off and gets back to his feet. Denard forces Mifune back against the cage and clinches. Denard breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mifune looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyuzo Mifune. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Denard throws a head kick that half lands.
Mifune drives through with a takedown into Denard's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Denard keeping full guard, as Mifune tries to pass. Mifune wants to control from the top but Denard keeps moving. This has been an exciting period of action! Mifune drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mifune jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Denard is looking to stand up but Mifune isn't so interested in that idea.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mifune stays in close to Denard's body and controls the position. Denard wants to stand but Mifune is controlling the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Denard can do anything to dispel that myth. Mifune wants to control from the top but Denard keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Mifune prevents Denard from getting back to his feet.
Kyuzo Mifune has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Mifune will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Denard lands with a slapping head kick. Denard lands with a nice body punch. Mifune is breathing heavily. Denard scores with a jab to the jaw. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Denard gets a clinch. Mifune jumps guard.

Denard lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mifune circles away quickly and effectively. Mifune shoots in for a double leg but Denard sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Denard lands with a shot to the body. Denard scores with a leg kick.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Denard moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Denard lands with a nice body punch. Mifune drops his hands momentarily and Denard takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Denard moves into the clinch successfully.

Denard works over Mifune's head and body with a nice combination. Denard throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Denard throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Denard throws a front kick that sends Mifune stumbling back into the cage. Denard is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Denard. Mifune shrugs it off though. Denard lands a nice hook to Mifune's body. Mifune takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Denard scores with a shot to the body.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Denard will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Mifune up against the cage. Denard looking to throw knees to the head but Mifune is blocking nicely.
Denard has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Denard lands a nice knee to the body. Denard using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Denard lands a right hand that snaps the head of Mifune backwards. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Denard slowing the pace effectively. Denard lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Denard just leaning against Mifune, taking a breather. Denard gets in close and instigates a clinch. Denard is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Bob Denard seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far. Denard breaks the clinch.
Denard lands with an uppercut that bounces Mifune off the cage and back into range. Bob Denard is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Yoshioka moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Boy has a takedown stuffed. Boy fails to land with a series of punches.

He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery. Yoshioka tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Boy fails with the takedown and Yoshioka counters with a lovely straight right hand! Boy shoots for a double leg takedown but Yoshioka sprawls well. He's pushed Boy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Yoshioka throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Boy has his takedown stuffed and Yoshioka counters with a nice body kick. Yoshioka looks to land a left hand but Boy moved out of range nicely. Yoshioka lands a high kick!
Boy is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. A kick lands to the mid section there for Yoshioka. Yoshioka swinging wildly here.

A jab from Yoshioka finds it's way through Boy's defenses. Yoshioka throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, German Shepherd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Canadian Assassin! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Assassin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shepherd is trying to defend but Assassin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Assassin takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Shepherd is pressing down on Assassin's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Shepherd has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Assassin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Shepherd is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Assassin is aware though and is defending well. Shepherd is looking for a triangle but Assassin pushes his legs off easily.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Assassin's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Assassin stands up over Shepherd, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Assassin working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Shepherd is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Assassin with a flurry of punches that miss. Shepherd escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Assassin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Assassin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Assassin stands and throws Shepherd's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Assassin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shepherd has escaped the position, nice work there. Assassin lands a nice forearm strike. Assassin in side control lands a decent elbow. Assassin in side control lands a decent elbow. Shepherd tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Assassin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Assassin scores with a couple of short elbows. Assassin connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Shepherd some visible discomfort.
Shepherd is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Shepherd is looking to reverse the position. Oh Shepherd is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Shepherd takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Assassin is working Shepherd over with some ground and pound from side control. Assassin lands a strong strike to the head of Shepherd. That's dazed him! Assassin looking to finish here. Shepherd is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Assassin lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Russo loads up on a big right hand but Lieu slips the punch. Lieu lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Russo circles away quickly and effectively. Russo misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Russo slips under a jab. Lieu takes a shot to the body in his stride.
The fighters circling - Russo throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Lieu missing with a left hand there. Russo was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Lieu lands a jab to the head.
Nice defenses there by Russo. Lieu misses with an uppercut. A jab from Lieu does it's job there.
It looks like Frankie Russo has been cut. Lieu scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Russo looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Lieu! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Russo trying to control but Lieu is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lieu in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Russo unloads with some shots from mount but Lieu bucks and avoids them well.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Lieu is in trouble now - Russo has advanced to mount! Russo landing strikes from the mount. Lieu keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Lieu suckers Russo into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Lieu is now in Russo's guard!
Russo has his hands on Lieu's head, controlling the position. Lieu is pushing down on Russo's leg trying to pass to half guard. Russo is fighting to maintain full guard but Lieu has managed to sneak the leg through.

Russo has his hands clasped together around Lieu's back. He's all about the action. Lieu maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Do scores with a nice strike. Do closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kuraba to the mat! Kuraba manages to get full guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Kuraba keeping moving, preventing Do from controlling successfully. Do landing with the ground and pound. Do wants to control from the top but Kuraba keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Do thows a big elbow that misses. Kuraba keeping moving, preventing Do from controlling successfully. Do has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Billy Do. Do moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Left hook, right uppercut from Do. Do cracks Kuraba with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Kuraba lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Danga de danga de dang - Do scores with a four punch combination! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kuraba tries to bum rush Do with a series of wild strikes but Do uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Kenji Kuraba is winning the standup battle so far. Kuraba defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Do. Kenji Kuraba has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Do. Kuraba throws a leg kick but Do sees it coming and moves out of range.

Do shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kuraba pinned against the cage. Kuraba gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Kuraba throws a right and a left that both miss. Kuraba throws a hook but Do avoids it easily.

Kuraba throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Kuraba throws a right and a left that Do avoids nicely. No joy there for Kuraba, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nice straight punches there by Do. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Do. Do throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kuraba. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Do slips a straight right by Kuraba. Do checks the leg kick. Do misses with the combination.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Billy Do. I think Do has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
