0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chad Slone! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Slone tries to clinch up and Rich counters with a nice body shot. Slone closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rich to the mat! Rich manages to get full guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Rich is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Slone tries to land knees in the clinch but Rich avoids the damage to the body. Slone is looking to control Rich's arms but Rich gets an underhook and turns him. Now Slone has his back to the cage. Knees to the body from Rich.
Slone tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rich smiles and moves away.
This has been an exciting period of action! Slone gets caught flat footed, as Rich shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Rich postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rich stands and steps away. Slone gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Rich jabs Slone to the body, keeping him at a distance. Slone tries to clinch and Rich counters with a lovely shot to the body. Slone looks gassed! Rich punishes Slone's body with a nice straight punch. Rich gets a takedown into half guard. Rich has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Rich lands a big shot. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Slone can do anything to dispel that myth. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rich working the head and body with strikes. Slone really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rich. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Rich working over Slone with some ground and pound. Slone looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rich connects with a nice short shot to Slone's temple.

Rich looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Rich is taking a breather. Slone says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Rich lands strikes from half guard. Rich working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Rich passes to side control. Chic Chong tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Moser paws at him with a jab and circles away. A momentary lapse in concentration from Chic Chong enables Moser to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Chic Chong manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Moser won't allow Chic Chong to get back to his feet. Moser trying to control the position from guard on top but Chic Chong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Moser is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Chic Chong is breathing heavily.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Cody Moser was stalling too much, according to the referee. Moser shoots in and drives through. Chic Chong sprawls well. Sloppy strikes from Moser. Those never looked like landing.

Chic Chong escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Moser swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Chic Chong counters by moving into the clinch. Chic Chong breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Moser. Chic Chong gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Moser drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Chic Chong gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Moser tries to break the clinch but Chic Chong is controlling the position. Chic Chong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Moser turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Moser manages to end up in side control. Chic Chong is pushing Moser's head away, looking to escape. Moser manages to hold on to the position though. Chic Chong tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Moser lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Moser has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. This has been an exciting period of action! Chic Chong is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Moser.

Moser slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Moser lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Chic Chong can't keep his opponent in guard - Moser advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Moser frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Cody Moser has got the better of the ground game so far. Moser controlling the pace for now. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Let's hope that Moser has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Dodson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Aldo keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Johnson is defended easily by Norton.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alex Johnson. Well Norton has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ruiz drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Ruiz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Ruiz is stalling in the full guard. Ruiz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Markakis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ruiz has managed to get both his arms back between Markakis's legs - danger averted. Ruiz's corner is telling him to maintain position.

He catches Markakis napping and manages to drive through into side control! This has been an exciting period of action! Markakis tries to get back to half guard but can't. Markakis is not content to let Ruiz control the position. Markakis is trying to get back to half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. The referee asks Ruiz politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marx keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Beucher. Beucher throws a looping overhand right but Marx ducks down to avoid it. A head kick misses from Marx. Beucher looks to land a left hand but Marx moved out of range nicely. Marx wants to clinch up but Beucher keeps it at a distance. Marx tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Beucher scores with a body shot.
Marx tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Beucher decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Marx's guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Marx has momentary wrist control but Beucher slips an elbow through the middle. That has opened up Desmond Claymore's cut even more. Beast has Claymore pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Claymore is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Beast - that's hurt Claymore badly! Oh, another knee lands and Claymore is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Claymore doesn't seem to be complaining.
