The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grubbs throws a low kick but Vega moves out of range easily. Grubbs with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Grubbs chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Vega misses with an uppercut. Grubbs tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Vega checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. A clash of legs there as Vega blocks the low kick. Grubbs tries a low kick but Vega avoids it. Vega looks to throw the jab but Grubbs is out of range. Grubbs chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Vega tries for a takedown but Grubbs sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Grubbs throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Vega throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Grubbs lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Grubbs throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Grubbs tries to land a leg kick but Vega saw it coming and moves away.

Vega takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Vega slips a nice elbow through Grubbs's hands, connecting with Grubbs's forehead. Vega works his way into side control. Vega lands some shots froms side control. Manitoba working for a submission but Fighter Ever is keeping him at bay. Manitoba controlling from the full mount. Manitoba trying to control but he's not successful this time. Jonathan attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Jonathan tries to land a leg kick but Maia saw it coming and moves away.

Jake Jonathan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jonathan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Jonathan looks for the body kick but Maia saw that one coming. Jonathan looks to land a body kick but Maia moved away. Jonathan throws a nice outside leg kick. Maia has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Jonathan. A solid leg kick lands there for Jonathan.

He's got his arms around Jonathan's waist but Jonathan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maia off to one side. Jonathan throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Maia's head. Jonathan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Maia. Maia looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Demian Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Maia checks a leg kick. Jonathan pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Jonathan tries to land a front kick but Maia steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Jonathan connects with a leg kick. Maia looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Maia fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Jonathan does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Jonathan wants to land a leg kick but Maia is out of range. Maia closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jonathan's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Jonathan trying to control the position.
Maia thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Maia drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Maia as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Jonathan screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Maia! Nice submission victory there!

Woods takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Woods tries to get back to half guard but can't. Carwin connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Woods some visible discomfort.

Woods tries to bench press Carwin off him but Carwin keeps the position. Woods on the wrong end of some ground and pound. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Woods is looking for a sweep. Woods looks gassed! Carwin landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Carwin connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Woods some visible discomfort.

Roman tries to work over Ghoul's front leg with a kick but Ghoul checks it. Roman fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Roman misses with an uppercut. Ghoul saw that one coming. Roman throws an off balance right hand
and Ghoul holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Roman has picked Ghoul up - he's going for a ride! Roman dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Roman prevents Ghoul from standing back up.
Roman is controlling the pace.
Ghoul gets full guard. Roman stays in close to Ghoul's body and controls the position. Roman looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roman preventing the sweep. Roman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Roman lands a couple of digs. Roman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Roman throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ghoul works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Ghoul will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Roman content to stall in guard here. Roman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ghoul. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Roman looking to pass the guard. Ghoul is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
