The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taco tries to clinch up and Smyth counters with a lovely shot to the body. Taco uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smyth.

Don Taco seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smyth circles away from the clinch attempt.
Taco is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Smyth throws a hook to the side of Taco's head but Taco sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Taco tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Smyth connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Taco tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Smyth manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. The fight stays on the outside here - Taco looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Taco tries to clinch but fails miserably and Smyth decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Taco's guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Taco controlling the position. Taco working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Smyth. Smyth wants to control from the top but Taco keeps moving. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Smyth slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Smyth is fighting to break Taco's control of his arms but Taco is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Smyth is looking to work some ground and pound but Taco has wrist control. Smyth trying to control the position from guard on top but Taco is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Smyth is pushing down on Taco's leg trying to pass to half guard. Taco is fighting to maintain full guard but Smyth has managed to sneak the leg through. Smyth landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. The fight stays on the outside here - Taco looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Smyth looks to land a left hand but Taco moved out of range nicely. Taco tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smyth paws at him with a jab and circles away. Smyth throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Taco's waist but Taco gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smyth off to one side.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smyth throws a leg kick and Taco counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Taco. Taco lands with a light punch inside. Taco tries to work over Smyth's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. A shot in the inside from Taco. Taco lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Smyth backwards. Taco tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Smyth blocks an uppercut.

Horrible takedown by Smyth or perhaps it was just good defense by Taco which made him look bad. Don Taco is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Taco tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Smyth pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Taco tries to close the distance and clinch but Smyth swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smyth ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Taco is looking to clinch but Smyth is avoiding it.
Taco wants to clinch up but Smyth keeps it at a distance. Smyth closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Taco did well to prevent Smyth getting side control. Smyth wants to lay and pray for a moment but Taco keeps working. Smyth throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Taco is in trouble now - Smyth has advanced to mount! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Taco gets back to half guard.

Vincent Smyth is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Smyth has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Taco is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Smyth is taking a breather. Taco says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Taco wants to get back to his feet. Taco blocking the ground and pound attempt from Smyth. Taco regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Smyth. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Smyth throws a big elbow that misses.

This has been an exciting period of action! Gibson lands with a thumping leg kick.
Gibson connects with a body shot that sends Refn's belly button to the back. Gibson fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Refn has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Refn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

He's pushed Gibson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Gibson throws a head kick that half lands.

Bangizwe lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Egorov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
