The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spewak will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Spewak enables DeSouza to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Spewak manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
DeSouza wants to get up but he can't break Spewak's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
DeSouza wants to control from the top but Spewak keeps moving.
Spewak is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
DeSouza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Spewak swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Spewak is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. DeSouza can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Spewak is going oldschool here, as he tries to force DeSouza to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so DeSouza shrugs it off.

Marco Ferreira seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ferreira drops Soares with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Soares looks back up at him and smiles so Ferreira waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Ferreira feints with a jab and clips Soares right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Soares is sent crashing into the canvas and Ferreira leaps in for the kill! Soares tries to get to his feet but Ferreira is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Soares is in need of a savior and steps in!

Slice is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Slice is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Walker couldn't care less - he's delighted!
