The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gillmeister misses with a looping left. Smalls fails with the takedown. Smalls tries to clinch but Gillmeister is having none of it. Smalls feints and as Gillmeister raises his hands in defense, Smalls changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Gillmeister tries to land a sweep but no joy. Smalls missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Smalls working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gillmeister's head. Gillmeister is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smalls is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Smalls trying to control but Gillmeister is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smalls makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Smalls throws a big right hand that misses. Gillmeister wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Smalls controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Gillmeister is fending him off so far but Smalls persists. Nope, Gillmeister circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Quick Smalls. That's going to take a lot out of him. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Smalls changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gillmeister tries to avoid it but Smalls manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gillmeister to the ground. Gillmeister escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Smalls slips under a jab from Gillmeister. Smalls ducks under a wild hook from Gillmeister. Gillmeister throws a lazy uppercut
and Smalls counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Gillmeister! Smalls has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Smalls with the ground and pound from mount. Smalls has hold of Gillmeister's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gillmeister manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Smalls fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smalls throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Gillmeister because Smalls loaded up on that one. Smalls working Gillmeister over with strikes here. The referee warns Gillmeister that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Smalls scores with a couple of good head shots there.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Van Hammersmith has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Minoshima finds it's way round the side to connect with Van Hammersmith's head.
It looks like Viggo Van Hammersmith has been cut. Minoshima misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Van Hammersmith.

Van Hammersmith shoots in but Minoshima avoids the takedown attempt easily. Van Hammersmith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Minoshima lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Van Hammersmith circles away quickly and effectively. Van Hammersmith tries to shoot in for a takedown. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Joyce throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kim. Kim doesn't succeed with the takedown and Joyce counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Kim is lucky that one didn't land flush. Joyce rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kim moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Kim shoots and misses and Joyce counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kim won't be happy with that. Joyce working the ground and pound. Kim regains half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Joyce lands a nice short elbow. Kim is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Joyce pulls his head out easily. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Walters misses with an uppercut. Tyler saw that one coming. Walters swings for the body but Tyler moves out of range.
Walters scores with a jab to the body. Walters swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Tyler misses with a hook. Walters ducked under it nicely. Walters jabbing away but nothing is landing. Walters tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tyler was well out of range. Poor timing from Walters. Walters pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Tyler back to the cage. Walters follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Tyler fails with a takedown attempt. Tyler fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Walters scores with a nice right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Walters thows a left - swing and a miss! A lazy left from Walters finds it's target. Tyler on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Walters dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Walters fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Tyler misses with a looping left. Tyler shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Walters pinned against the cage. Walters gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Kevin Walters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brock Tyler. A looping hook to the body misses from Walters. Tyler does a little dance to reset his feet.

Tyler feints and as Walters raises his hands in defense, Tyler changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Tyler drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tyler jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Walters trying to control the position here. Tyler pushes down on Walters's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tyler wants to pass to mount but Walters is defending the position. Tyler seems to be working for a kimura but Walters defends the submission attempt. Walters wants to control but Tyler is keeping busy and won't allow it. Tyler seems to be looking for submissions.
Tyler is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Walters has managed to free his arm - good work. Tyler passes to side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tyler in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Tyler moves into full mount! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tyler throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Walters because Tyler loaded up on that one. Walters defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Tyler. This has been an exciting period of action! Tyler fails to move to back control. Tyler with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Walters wants to hold on but Tyler pushes him away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Walters tries to get out of the position. Walters avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Tyler. Walters is trying to stand up here but Tyler is controlling him well. Tyler is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Walters sees it coming and defends easily. Tyler is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Walters! Walters avoids a series of strikes thrown by Tyler.

Brock Tyler has got the better of the ground game so far. Tyler jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Walters manages to avoid the submission attempt. Tyler has hold of Walters's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Walters seems comfortable defending it but Tyler has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Walters is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Walters is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Tyler couldn't care less - he's delighted!
