The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maxwell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Funky circles away quickly and effectively. Maxwell stalks Funky and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Funky's face. Funky staggers backwards, shaken. Funky stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Funky wants it to stay on the feet. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Maxwell!
Maxwell throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Funky stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Maxwell leaves Funky with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Maxwell's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Maxwell duly obliges. Funky tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Maxwell changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Funky looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. This has been an exciting period of action! The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Maxwell tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Funky struggling a bit here. Funky is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Maxwell off and has taken his back!

Maxwell trying to control but Funky is working from the bottom. Funky has control of Maxwell's left arm, preventing Maxwell from doing any damage. Maxwell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Funky swivels though and keeps the full guard. Funky is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Maxwell is aware though and is defending well. Funky trying to keep a closed guard but Maxwell is proving a slippery customer.
Maxwell wants to control from the top but Funky keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maxwell postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Funky is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Maxwell, into his guard. Funky postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Maxwell is looking for a triangle here but Funky uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Maxwell tries to get back to half guard but can't. Funky landing a few strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Funky wants to control but Maxwell is keeping him busy. Maxwell sneaks back into half guard. Funky working over Maxwell with some ground and pound. Maxwell looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Maxwell is looking for a sweep. Funky is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Maxwell actively working from the bottom here. Maxwell is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Funky pulls his head out easily. Maxwell looks gassed! Funky lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Funky controlling the action here.

It looks like Ken Maxwell has been cut. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Funky landing strikes from the mount and Maxwell is in trouble! Maxwell tries to reverse the position but Funky maintains control. Maxwell is in a horrible position here. Funky smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Ben Funky will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Ken Maxwell's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Horrible takedown by Funky or perhaps it was just good defense by Maxwell which made him look bad.
That has opened up Ken Maxwell's cut even more. Maxwell tries to clinch but Funky is having none of it. Maxwell gets caught flat footed, as Funky shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Funky doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Funky manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Funky trying to control the position from guard on top but Maxwell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Maxwell looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Funky postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Maxwell is breathing heavily.

Funky wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maxwell keeps working.

Maxwell tries to stand but Funky is controlling from the bottom.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Holopainen manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Olajide on his heels. He'll look to pass Olajide's guard now, I'm sure. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Olajide is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Olajide is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Olajide wants to stand up but Holopainen is controlling him. Olajide will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Holopainen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Olajide shoots in but no luck this time. The fight moves into the clinch position. Olajide gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Zedong has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Lilke is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Zedong. Zedong gets back to half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Zedong in particular looking to stall. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ludwig jabs Lieu to the body, keeping him at a distance. Ludwig moves into range and connects with a jab. Lieu bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Ludwig moves out of range as Lieu throws a body kick.
Lieu uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ludwig. Lieu takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Lieu lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Nice uppercut lands for Ludwig. That snapped Lieu's head back.
Lieu feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Ludwig's calf. Ludwig scores with a crisp jab that stopped Lieu in his tracks. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ludwig on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Ludwig lands with an uppercut that bounces Lieu off the cage and back into range. Ludwig throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
