That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Nieto working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gomi. Gomi is sitting in close to Nieto's body. Nieto has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Gomi is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Gomi is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Nieto.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bitonti shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Harper pinned against the cage. Harper gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. A jab from Harper does it's job there. Bitonti moves out of range of the leg kick from Harper. Bitonti throws a body punch but Harper moves out of range. A looping hook to the body misses from Bitonti. Harper does a little dance to reset his feet. Harper connects with a jab. Bitonti blocks a low kick nicely. Bitonti misses with a straight left. Harper scores with a slapping inside leg kick. An inside leg kick lands from Harper. Harper gets a clinch. Bitonti lands a hook that snaps the head of Harper backwards. Bitonti is stalling here.

The fight stays on the outside here - Harper looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Bitonti misses with a body shot
and Harper counters with a nice low kick that buckles Bitonti's knee momentarily. Harper throws a leg kick that is checked and Bitonti counters with a shoot takedown. Harper fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Harper looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Bitonti pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Harper is keeping the position for now. Harper is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Bitonti stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Harper swivels though and keeps the full guard. Harper wants to get back to his feet but Bitonti is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Bitonti in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A low kick from Harper misses and Bitonti cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Bitonti takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Harper's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Harper duly obliges. Harper cracks Bitonti with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Bitonti fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Harper manages to avoid it. Bitonti loads up on a big right hand but Harper slips the punch. Harper takes a jab right on the kisser.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bitonti dives in and scores a takedown into Harper's guard. Harper is controlling Bitonti's posture. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Bitonti is stalling in the full guard. Bitonti wants to control from the top but Harper keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Charles Harper will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Anthony Bitonti's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Harper attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Charles Harper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Bitonti. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Bitonti checks a leg kick. A low kick from Harper is predictable there and Bitonti decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Harper's guard.

No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Harper wants to get up but he can't break Bitonti's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Harper ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bitonti moves away. Harper gets a clinch. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Harper gets underhooks to prevent Bitonti's takedown attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
