Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Christian Battle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Smithers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Battle might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Big L work. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Smithers! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smithers fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Battle sprawls well initially but Smithers persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Smithers is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Battle wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Jimmy Smithers has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. The fight stays on the outside here - Battle looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Smithers's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Smithers duly obliges. A combination from Smithers does no damage. Battle takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Smithers swings and misses with a hook to the body.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Smithers swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Battle tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smithers paws at him with a jab and circles away. Christian Battle is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Smithers throws a right and a left that both miss. Battle throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Smithers sees it coming and avoids it easily. Battle slips a jab and a cross from Smithers.
Battle tries to clinch up. Jimmy Smithers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smithers throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Battle tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Smithers is in Battle's guard. Smithers won't allow Battle to get back to his feet. Battle is breathing heavily. Smithers would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Jimmy Smithers was stalling too much, according to the referee. Smithers throws a nice looking combination but Battle bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Smithers misses with the combination.

Smithers looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Smithers swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Smithers swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Battle tries to sprawl but Smithers drives through with a takedown into half guard. Smithers wants to stand but Battle has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smithers is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Battle is trying to stand up here but Smithers is controlling him well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Battle looks to land a combination but Smithers avoids it well. Battle tries to clinch up. Battle walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Smithers clinches with his opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Battle jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smithers walks away with a smile on his face. Battle gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Smithers throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Smithers throws a series of punches but Battle moves out of range. Battle swings and misses with a hook to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jimmy Smithers dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Smithers fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Smithers avoids the body shot from Battle.
Battle wants to clinch. Battle throws a series of punches but Smithers moves out of range. Smithers moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Smithers is pawing at Battle, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Battle's nose. Battle is badly hurt! Smithers pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Battle tries desperately to hold on but Smithers is relentless in his assault! As Battle receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Smithers away and this one is in the books!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Black clinches up with Sparrow and pushes him back against the cage. Sparrow pulls Black into guard.
Black trying to control but Sparrow is working from the bottom. Sparrow looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Black wants to stand but Sparrow is controlling his posture from full guard. Black sitting in guard, not really doing much. Black wants to stand and escape but instead Sparrow has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sparrow engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Black is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sparrow passes into half guard. Still in half guard, Sparrow seems content to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. It looks like Sparrow might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Black trying to control here.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Black changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Black digs a good hook to Sparrow's body.
John Black is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Sparrow shoots in looking for a takedown but Black manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sparrow's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Sparrow shoots in for a takedown but Black shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Sparrow takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Black is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Sparrow is controlling him well. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Black is letting Sparrow control him for a moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sparrow dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Black is looking to escape. Well, if Sparrow is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Black on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Black tries to get out of the position. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Black is pushing Sparrow's head away, looking to escape. Sparrow manages to hold on to the position though.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jack Sparrow hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Black slaps away a takedown attempt from Sparrow, before circling back to the center of the mat. Sparrow looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Black! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Black is in all sorts of trouble here.

Sparrow is defending well for now. Black throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Sparrow blocks it with crossed arms. Sparrow keeps control of Black as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Black working hard to break the clinch. Sparrow goes for a takedown attempt but Black pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Sparrow keeping moving, preventing Black from controlling successfully. Black wanted to stand there but Sparrow had control of the position. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Sparrow is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Black quickly recovers to half guard. Black is looking to escape. Sparrow scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Black wants to stand back up but Sparrow manages to pass into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Black manages to get back to half guard. Jack Sparrow is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sparrow performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Martin throws a leg kick which misses Jones's front leg but catches the back leg as Jones tries to avoid it. Jones misses with a right hand and Martin counters with a low kick, right behind Jones 's knee. Martin throws a low kick but it's checked well by Jones. Jones throws a hook but Martin blocks it. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Martin.

Martin lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Martin with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Lenny Martin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Martin does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Jones loads up on a big right hand but Martin slips the punch. Nice shot lands for Jones. Jones throws a shot from downtown. Martin moves away and avoids it. Martin scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Jones is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones misses with a wild body shot. Jones checks a leg kick. Martin throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.

Chris Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Martin fails with the takedown. This has been an exciting period of action! Nice shot lands for Jones. Jones with a nice cross. Martin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jones looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones tries to escape but Martin is in control. You can see the frustration on Jones's face as Martin controls the position. Martin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jones, who protects the arm well. Jones is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Martin asserts his dominance and retains side control. Martin thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Martin tries to move to mount but Jones blocks the move with his legs. Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Martin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones wants to get back to his feet but Martin drags him back down. Martin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Martin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jones is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Martin tries to control but Jones wriggling away. Martin controlling from the full mount. Martin trying to control but Jones is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight! Lenny Martin showed his dominance in that final round. Well Martin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Mason kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Square Dance. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Millard misses with a hook
and Mason counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Millard blocks a jab. Millard misses the shot to the body. Millard lands a right hook to the body.

Mason throws a big shot that misses. Bruce Millard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mason lands a nice shot to the body.
Mason bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Millard dips to his left and cracks Mason with an uppercut! A looping hook to the body misses from Mason. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mason paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Mason cracks Millard with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. The fighters circling - Mason throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Mason ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Mason throws a hook but Millard blocks it. Millard throws the left hand but Mason avoids the punch easily. Mason avoids a lazy jab quite easily. A big right from Mason misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Millard connects with the punch. Millard throws a body punch but Mason moves out of range. Mason uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Millard. Mason moves into the clinch. Mason pushes Millard back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Millard displaying some good clinch control by pressing Mason up against the cage. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mason throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Mason blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Millard creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Millard is trying to break free. Millard wants to get back to striking at distance but Mason won't allow it.
Mason lands a nice uppercut. Mason makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Bruce Millard will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Millard shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Millard throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Millard dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Mason lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
