1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jayar Batista! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bj Penn! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Batista closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Penn to the mat! Penn manages to get full guard. Penn looking for a guillotine here but Batista defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Batista defends it easily. Penn is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Batista frees his head nicely. Oh but Penn has switched to an armbar! Batista is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Bj Penn! Bj Penn got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Owth showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Velasquez.
Owth shoots in and gets a takedown into Velasquez's guard. Owth drops back looking for a leg! Velasquez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Velasquez manages to kick Owth off! Owth jumps back into Velasquez's guard. Owth drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Owth jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Owth drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Owth seems to have locked his on tight now - Velasquez screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Owth, as he picks up the win!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Ruben Owth! Ruben Owth decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.

The crowd seem to be enjoying Liddell's choice of entrance music: DMX Intro. Mark Liddell told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Liddell takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Liddell takes a kick to the body and keeps moving. al Thor has managed to clinch.

A quick uppercut on the inside from al Thor. al Thor lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Liddell. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A nice right hand lands inside from al Thor. al Thor lands an uppercut. Liddell can't find room to land a body shot as al Thor controls the action.
Liddell takes a shot to the head. al Thor lands a right hand that snaps the head of Liddell backwards. Liddell's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! al Thor lands a shoulder strike. al Thor lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Liddell doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
al Thor escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
al Thor connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. al Thor jabs at Liddell's body. Liddell looks gassed! al Thor lands a nice leg kick that just misses Liddell's sensitive parts. al Thor drops Liddell with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Liddell looks back up at him and smiles so al Thor waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
That's one minute gone in the round. al Thor feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Liddell sprawling to the canvas! Liddell rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can al Thor finish him?!
Liddell is rocked! al Thor lands with a nice body kick. Liddell is still on wobbly legs! Can al Thor finish him? Mark Liddell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A kick lands to the mid section there for al Thor. Liddell seems to have recovered his senses. al Thor throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. al Thor forces Liddell back against the cage and clinches. al Thor gets through Liddell's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. al Thor breaks from the clinch.
al Thor feints and then cracks Liddell's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Liddell down. A decent looking body kick lands there for al Thor. al Thor sends Liddell crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! al Thor is motioning to the referee to let Liddell up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet! al Thor jabs Liddell to the body, keeping him at a distance. Liddell gets tackled into the cage by al Thor. al Thor maintains the clinch. al Thor is stalling here.
al Thor tries to land knees in the clinch but Liddell avoids the damage to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A short right from al Thor. al Thor scores with a nice hook to the head. al Thor breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. al Thor has taken the fight to the clinch.

A good leg kick by al Thor. Liddell throws a right hand that misses
and al Thor makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Liddell on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. al Thor darts in and clinches Liddell up against the cage. Liddell throws a punch but it's blocked by al Thor. al Thor lands a left hand that snaps the head of Liddell backwards. al Thor lands a shot to the body. A short right from al Thor. al Thor throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Liddells head. al Thor is pushing Liddell up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with al Thor for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
That's three minutes gone in the round. al Thor lands a right hand that snaps the head of Liddell backwards. Liddell doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
A short left from al Thor. A short right from al Thor on the inside. al Thor scores with an uppercut up the middle. al Thor lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. With the fighters clinched against the cage, al Thor creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Liddell tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and al Thor avoids it. Liddell misses with a hook from the clinch. al Thor blocks an uppercut.

al Thor looks to score with a jab to the body but Liddell is just out of range. A solid leg kick lands there for al Thor.
al Thor fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Liddell looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. al Thor moves away from the strike by Liddell. al Thor is looking to wear down Liddell with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. al Thor stuns Liddell with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. al Thor forces Liddell back against the cage and clinches. al Thor scores with a shot to the side of Liddell's head. al Thor lands a right hand. al Thor lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. al Thor prevents a body shot from Liddell. Liddell misses with a short punch on the inside. Liddell misses with the head strike.
A nice right hand lands inside from al Thor. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. al Thor lands a nice uppercut. al Thor softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! al Thor makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. al Thor lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Liddell. al Thor working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. A short right from al Thor. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rand al Thor dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
al Thor comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Liddell throws the left hand but al Thor avoids the punch easily. al Thor looking to land some kicks to the body here.
al Thor with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
al Thor lands a big head kick that sends Liddell tumbling to the mat! al Thor takes a step backwards and waves Liddell back to his feet - he wants the finish! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ohhhhhhhhhh, brutal head kick from al Thor! This one is all over!
