8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ippo Makunouchi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tim Style! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Eddie Farnsworth and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Makunouchi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Style's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Style is trying to keep Makunouchi in close.
Style is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Style utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Style has his foot on Makunouchi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Makunouchi works his way back into a safe position though. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Makunouchi's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Makunouchi throws a big elbow that misses. Style avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Makunouchi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Style on the ground. Makunouchi postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Makunouchi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Makunouchi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Style preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Makunouchi throwing strikes but missing. Makunouchi lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Style is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Makunouchi landing some decent shots from guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Style is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Makunouchi is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Makunouchi keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Style's head. Makunouchi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Makunouchi postures up and lands a big shot to Style's brow. Makunouchi content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Style is rocked! Makunouchi landing with the ground and pound. Style is still in real trouble! Can Makunouchi finish him? Makunouchi gets to his feet and stands over Style, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Style felt that one! Makunouchi unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Style from any more punishment!

2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damian Gonzalez! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jorge Garcia and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gonzalez leaves Evans with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Evans rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gonzalez moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Gonzalez throws a shot from downtown. Evans moves away and avoids it. Gonzalez throws the left hand but Evans avoids the punch easily. Gonzalez lands a two punch combo.
Evans scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Evans prevents Gonzalez from standing back up.
Evans wants to stand up but Gonzalez is controlling the position.
Gonzalez makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Evans has a takedown stuffed. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gonzalez looks to land a combination but Evans avoids it well.

Gonzalez tries to land a body kick and Evans counters by moving into the clinch. Gonzalez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Gonzalez is trying to push Evans away but Evans has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Gonzalez breaks from the clinch.

and Evans counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gonzalez's guard now. Evans wants to pass the guard but Gonzalez is keeping the position. Gonzalez wants to stand and escape but Evans is having none of it. Evans forces his way into half guard. Ground and pound from Evans. Evans escapes and gets back to his feet. This has been an exciting period of action! Gonzalez throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Evans shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gonzalez pinned against the cage. Gonzalez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Gonzalez lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Evans scores a takedown into full mount! Gonzalez is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Gonzalez looks gassed! Evans is standing up, even though he is in mount. Donk. Gonzalez catches Evans right on the button with a cross. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Evans. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Evans moves out of range as Gonzalez strikes. Evans shoots in for a takedown and gets it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Rashad Evans will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Gonzalez wriggles free and stands up. Gonzalez throws the left hand but Evans avoids the punch easily. Nice takedown defense from Gonzalez. No joy for Evans on that attempt. Evans fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gonzalez to the ground. Evans is now in Gonzalez's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Evans tries to free his leg and advance position but Gonzalez is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Evans stops Gonzalez from standing up. Evans stands and throws Gonzalez's legs to the side, diving into side control. Evans in side control lands a decent elbow. Gonzalez prevents Evans from moving into mount. Gonzalez is working to avoid the ground and pound but Evans connects with a decent elbow. Evans has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Gonzalez! Gonzalez is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Gonzalez is breathing heavily. Gonzalez is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Evans has taken his back.
Evans is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Gonzalez is defending well though. Evans let's go of the attempt for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. This has been an exciting period of action! Gonzalez preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Evans. Gonzalez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Evans stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gonzalez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Evans is working hard here to advance position. Evans works a leg free and moves into half guard. Evans is working for a kimura but Gonzalez is defending it quite comfortably.

This has been an exciting period of action! Evans is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Gonzalez wants to get back to his feet. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Evans lands a nice short elbow.

Evans is nestled in close to Gonzalez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Evans stands up and beckons Gonzalez to join him on the feet. Evans gets the takedown into side control. Evans misses with the ground and pound. Gonzalez is pushing Evans's head away, looking to escape. Evans manages to hold on to the position though. Evans decides to stand back up. Evans steps back and let's Gonzalez get back to his feet. Damian Gonzalez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gonzalez gets caught napping as Evans dives in and scores a takedown. Gonzalez manages to retain guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Evans advances position into side control! Gonzalez taking punishment in the form of punches.

Gonzalez throws a right and a left that both miss. Evans feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Evans works a leg free and moves into half guard. Evans is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Gonzalez is looking to escape. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Evans decides to stand and escape the position. Evans shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gonzalez's guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Rashad Evans showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Evans, winning every round. Will the judges agree? The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sykloni lands a jab. Brawler shoots for a double leg takedown but Sykloni sprawls well. He's pushed Brawler's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Brawler loads up on a big right hand but Sykloni slips the punch. Sykloni throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Brawler shoots in looking for a takedown. Sykloni tries to sprawl out of it but Brawler keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sykloni manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Brawler throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brawler throws a jab but it's blocked by Sykloni. Brawler misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Sykloni throws a quick inside leg kick. Brawler tries to clinch and Sykloni cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Brawler shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sykloni as he jumps to the side. Brawler is breathing heavily. Sykloni cracks a nice hook into Brawler's ribs. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Brawler avoids a kick to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Brawler closes the distance but Sykloni moves to the side and Sykloni counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Brawler moves out of range of the body kick. Brawler tries to close the distance and clinch but Sykloni swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Brawler shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sykloni sprawls well. Sykloni wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Brawler gets slowly back to his feet. Brawler closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Sykloni connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Sykloni lands a head shot. Sykloni lands a nice hook to Brawler's body. Brawler takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Brawler. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery. Brawler swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sykloni scores with a nice head shot. Brawler fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Sykloni blocks a head kick by Brawler.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Brawler looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Sykloni is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Brawler had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Brawler tries to clinch but Sykloni moves out of range. Donk. Sykloni catches Brawler right on the button with a cross. Sykloni scores with a jab to the body. Brawler walks into a straight right hand from Sykloni.
Brawler is rocked! Sykloni feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Brawler crashing to the mat! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Sami Sykloni! Sami Sykloni very nearly forgot to thank CEC Nutrition Q159 amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name.
