The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circle momentarily. Portugal darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

It looks like Perwisyo Rua has been cut.
Nice sprawl there from Portugal as Rua shoots in.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Portugal.
Rua moves in looking to clinch but Portugal pushes him off.
Rua looks for the body kick but Portugal saw that one coming.
Portugal lands a lovely overhand right.
Portugal throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Rua stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rua tries to close the distance and clinch but Portugal swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Portugal throws a head kick but Rua moves out of range.
Portugal shoots in looking for a takedown. Rua tries to sprawl out of it but Portugal keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rua manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Perwisyo Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricardo Portugal.
Portugal throws a combination. Rua tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Rua is breathing heavily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
