The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brennan fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Yamamoto leaves Brennan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Yamamoto gets in close and instigates a clinch. Brennan fails to pull guard.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lee wants to clinch. Lee is looking to clinch. Lee misses with a takedown and Rua counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lee's guard now. Lee trying to control the position.

Kawashima shoots in looking for a takedown but Brandao manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kawashima's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Kawashima fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Brandao sprawls well initially but Kawashima persists and gets the takedown into half guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Brandao wants to control but Kawashima is keeping busy.
Brandao is looking for a sweep. Kawashima is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Brandao is looking to control Kawashima's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Brandao avoid being mounted?
We're going to have a standup here because Diego Brandao wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Brandao throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kawashima's waist but Kawashima gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brandao off to one side. Kawashima fails with an attempt to clinch.

Kawashima is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Kawashima is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Brandao couldn't care less - he's delighted!

That's better than Stepaneks was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Stepaneks fails to move to back control. Stepaneks is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Man has managed to escape the submission attempt.

That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Swafford tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Moshi paws at him with a jab and circles away. Moshi shoots in for a double leg but Swafford sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Nice sprawl there from Swafford as Moshi shoots in. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Armen Moshi. That's going to take a lot out of him. Moshi checks a leg kick nicely. Swafford keeps the fight on the outside. Moshi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Swafford sprawls well. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Swafford's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Moshi. Moshi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Swafford on the ground. Moshi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Moshi advances position into side control! Moshi remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Swafford pushes Moshi away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Moshi gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Swafford looking for a sweep but Moshi has passed into full mount! Oh no! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Moshi tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Swafford is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Moshi unloads with some shots from mount but Swafford bucks and avoids them well.
