Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Damien OQuinn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lufi Monkey! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Monkey is defended easily by OQuinn. OQuinn slaps away a takedown attempt from Monkey, before circling back to the center of the mat. OQuinn will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Monkey looks to land a left hand but OQuinn moved out of range nicely. Monkey keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. A big right from Monkey misses. The fighters circling - Monkey throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monkey tries for a takedown but OQuinn sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Damien OQuinn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lufi Monkey. No luck with that takedown attempt from Monkey. Monkey shoots and misses and OQuinn counters with a takedown into side control. OQuinn misses with the ground and pound. Monkey is not content to let OQuinn control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. OQuinn tries to move into full mount but can't pass Monkey's legs. OQuinn controls the position. OQuinn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Monkey on the ground. OQuinn landing strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! OQuinn in side control, just content to control the action for now. OQuinn wants to take a breather but Monkey manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for OQuinn. OQuinn trying to control the position from guard on top but Monkey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Damien OQuinn just wasn't active enough. OQuinn tries to score a power double leg takedown but Monkey sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten OQuinn somewhat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. OQuinn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Monkey as he jumps to the side. Nice defenses there by OQuinn. OQuinn tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Monkey swivels and escapes. OQuinn stuffs the takedown attempt from Monkey. Monkey gets slowly back to his feet. Lufi Monkey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Monkey swings for the body but OQuinn moves out of range.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Monkey throws the left hand but OQuinn avoids the punch easily. OQuinn throws a hook but Monkey blocks it. Monkey throws a front kick aimed at OQuinn's knee but OQuinn avoids it well. Monkey waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract OQuinn. Monkey misses with a hook. OQuinn ducked under it nicely. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. OQuinn is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Monkey's half guard. OQuinn is looking to take a break and control but Monkey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Damien OQuinn dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
OQuinn looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Monkey tries to sprawl but OQuinn drives through with a takedown into half guard. OQuinn sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Monkey defending well though. Monkey trying to control from the bottom.
Monkey is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! OQuinn is tapping! Great win for Monkey!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Franco has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Lunn Ferris finds it's way round the side to connect with Franco's head. Franco avoids the body shot from Lunn Ferris.
Franco decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Franco seems to be working for a kimura but Lunn Ferris defends the submission attempt. Lunn Ferris trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Lunn Ferris is looking to get to half guard. Franco lands a heavy elbow. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lunn Ferris can do anything to dispel that myth. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Lunn Ferris is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Franco locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Lunn Ferris is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rodnei Franco! Rodnei Franco very nearly forgot to thank KAISER amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name.
