Maeda connects with a leg kick. Van Damme looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Maeda drops Van Damme with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Van Damme looks back up at him and smiles so Maeda waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Van Damme is rocked!
Van Damme circles to his right, straight into a beautiful hook by Maeda. Van Damme falls face first into the canvas - great knockout victory for Maeda!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Akira Maeda!
Akira Maeda is the new light heavyweight champion!
