Sapp tries to close the distance and clinch up but Batista swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bob Sapp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Batista avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Starstryder, right into the meat.
Good leg kick by Starstryder there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Starstryder avoids the body shot from Bader.
A jab lands there for Starstryder.
Starstryder throws a head kick but Bader moves out of range.
Starstryder tries to land a front kick but Bader steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Starstryder throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bader stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Bader wants to lay and pray for a moment but Starstryder keeps working.

Bader got a little sloppy there for a moment and Starstryder has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bader has managed to get both his arms back between Starstryder's legs - danger averted.
Bader tries to free his leg and advance position but Starstryder is retaining full guard.
Bader really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Starstryder. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Brayan Bader showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Fertus counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Slice is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Fertus drops Slice with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Slice looks back up at him and smiles so Fertus waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Fertus takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

and Fertus counters with a right hand to the body.

Fertus lands a big head kick that sends Slice tumbling to the mat! Fertus takes a step backwards and waves Slice back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Slice is rocked!
Fertus throws an uppercut from hell that sends Slice clean off his feet! He's out cold! Fertus stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mike Fertus!
