Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcello Cobretti! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kohaku Ryota! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cobretti throws a leg kick but Ryota sees it coming and checks it nicely. Ryota slips under a jab from Cobretti. Ryota tries to clinch up but Cobretti circles away and keeps his distance. Cobretti thows a body shot but no joy. Cobretti circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cobretti tries to sprawl but Ryota drives through with a takedown into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Cobretti looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Cobretti wants to control but Ryota is keeping busy and won't allow it. Ryota should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Ryota passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Cobretti! Ryota is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Cobretti can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cobretti tries to hold on but Ryota pushes him away. Cobretti tries to get back to half guard but can't. Ryota avoids the attempt from Cobretti to control. Ryota looking to secure an arm triangle but Cobretti defends it well. Cobretti is squirming around, avoiding Ryota's attempts to control the action. Cobretti tries to reverse the position but Ryota maintains control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ryota looking to control but Cobretti is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Cobretti is trying desperately to improve position. Cobretti tries to lock up and control but Ryota gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Ryota is working for a guillotine from mount but Cobretti frees his head quite easily.
Cobretti has given up his back here. Will Ryota look for the submission or keep pounding away?

Cobretti preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Ryota. Cobretti is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Ryota gets his way!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Ryota is not going to allow Cobretti to sit and survive in this position. Cobretti tries to break free.
Ryota looking to break Cobretti's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Cobretti remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Ryota will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cobretti turns into Ryota and is now in his guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cobretti trying to control but Ryota is working from the bottom. Ryota has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Cobretti is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ryota. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kohaku Ryota dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Ryota feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Ryota looking to pass the guard. Cobretti can't keep his opponent in guard - Ryota advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Cobretti is doing well to control the position and prevent Ryota from advancing to side control. Ryota is looking for a kimura but Cobretti is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ryota to get the leverage. Cobretti is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ryota pulls his head out easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cobretti has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ryota is working away from the top position though. Ryota is just content to waste time from the top position. Cobretti takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Cobretti is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Ryota wants to pass the guard but Cobretti is keeping the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cobretti throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Ryota escapes and throws Cobretti's legs to the side, diving into side control! Cobretti tries to buck Ryota off but Ryota is having none of it. Kohaku Ryota has got the better of the ground game so far. Cobretti wants to control but Ryota postures up. Cobretti sneaks back into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ryota is looking for a kimura but Cobretti is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ryota to get the leverage. Ryota is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Ryota wants to control the pace but Cobretti is squirming around nicely. Cobretti wants to control but Ryota is having none of it. Ryota is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Cobretti has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Cobretti!

Ryota is breathing heavily. Cobretti's corner is telling him to maintain position. Ryota is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Cobretti passes Ryota's left leg - he's now in half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cobretti with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Kohaku Ryota will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Ryota tries to clinch but Cobretti moves out of range. Cobretti misses with an uppercut. Ryota saw that one coming. Cobretti tries a low kick but Ryota avoids it. Ryota gets caught napping as Cobretti dives in and scores a takedown. Ryota manages to retain guard. Cobretti trying to control the position from guard on top but Ryota is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ryota had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cobretti defends it easily. Ryota keeping moving, preventing Cobretti from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cobretti drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cobretti jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Cobretti postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ryota is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Cobretti, into his guard. Ryota wants to control from the top but Cobretti keeps moving. Ryota sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cobretti's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cobretti is trying to maintain the position but Ryota is very close to passing his half guard. Cobretti moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Ryota stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cobretti swivels though and keeps the full guard. Cobretti trying to control the position.
Ryota drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cobretti manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ryota has Cobretti in his guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ryota working for a triangle but Cobretti defends it easily.
Cobretti thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Cobretti pushing down on Ryota's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cobretti controlling the pace. Cobretti moves into full mount! Ryota won't be happy about that! Cobretti looking to secure an arm triangle but Ryota defends it well. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Ryota is trying to escape the mount.
