The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nickleson slips under a jab from Webster. Nickleson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Webster. Webster scores with a shot to the body.
Damon Nickleson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nickleson tries to bum rush Webster with a series of wild strikes but Webster uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Nickleson throws a poor cross that misses
and Webster counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Nickleson swings and misses with a hook to the body.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Webster wants to work for an arm triangle but Nickleson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Nickleson wants to stand but Webster is controlling the position. Webster is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Nickleson keeping moving, preventing Webster from controlling successfully. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Nickleson throws a body punch but Webster moves out of range. Webster looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Nickleson tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Webster manages to move to mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Webster cracks Nickleson with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Jack Withrow is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Withrow lands a big head kick that sends Maka tumbling to the mat! Withrow takes a step backwards and waves Maka back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Maka is rocked! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! A low kick from Maka is predictable there and Withrow counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! Maka has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Saymon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Saymon looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Ward lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Ward gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Ward has hold of one of Saymon's legs. Saymon is fighting the takedown attempt but Ward gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Saymon is working an open guard so Ward takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Ward fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Saymon, pushing him back against the cage. Ward is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Saymon pulls him back up using the underhooks. Ward has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Saymon is trying to keep an underhook but Ward manages to get the takedown into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ward stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Saymon drops his hands momentarily and Ward takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Ward rushes Saymon and presses him up against the cage. Ward is trying to trip Saymon. He has hold of a leg but Saymon is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ward persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Saymon can't keep his opponent in guard - Ward advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Ward decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ward closes the distance and lands a one-two. Ward rushes Saymon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Ward turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ward manages to end up in side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Check out the look on Ward's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Ward decides to stand up, so the ref orders Saymon to his feet. Ward gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ward has clasped his hands together around Saymon's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Ward decides to take the fight back to the feet. Saymon takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Saymon needs to keep his hands up - Ward had a free shot at his head there.

I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Ward stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Saymon to get to his feet. Ward displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Ward gets a clinch. Ward has picked Saymon up - he's going for a ride! Ward dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Ward has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ward decides to stand and escape the position.

Alves loses concentration momentarily and Ricard pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Alves crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Ricard finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.

Hasse Hansson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hansson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Howard moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Hansson misses with a hook. Howard fails with a takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Howard looking to score a takedown here. Hansson is defending well but Howard drives through and ends up in Hansson's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Howard in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Howard keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hansson's head. Hansson controls Howard momentarily but Howard frees himself. Hansson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Howard manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Howard won't allow Hansson to get back to his feet. Howard throws a big elbow that misses. Hansson wants to stand but Howard is controlling the position. Howard scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Howard avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Howard throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hansson works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Hansson doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Howard stops Hansson from standing up. Howard postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Howard cracks Hansson with a solid left hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hansson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Howard with a nice head shot there. Howard trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hansson is looking for a triangle but Howard pushes his legs off easily.
Howard working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Hansson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Howard throwing strikes from guard but Hansson blocks nicely. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Howard connects with a couple of short punches. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Howard in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Howard scoring with punches to the head and body. Howard chips away with some ground and pound. Howard throwing strikes but missing. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
