0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vladimir Matsuenco! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matsuenco gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ramone to score an easy takedown into full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ramone loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Matsuenco working a defensive guard but Ramone passes into half guard.
Ramone is looking to advance position but Matsuenco won't allow it. Ramone wants to work for an arm triangle but Matsuenco is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ramone slips a nice elbow through Matsuenco's hands, connecting with Matsuenco's forehead. Matsuenco slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Ramone postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Ramone wants to control from the top but Matsuenco keeps moving. Ramone sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Matsuenco's guard. Well, if Ramone is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Ramone wants to advance to full mount but Matsuenco doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Matsuenco is trying to control the position but Ramone postures up. Ramone is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Ramone working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Matsuenco's head. Ramone is looking to work some ground and pound but Matsuenco has wrist control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ramone lands a couple of digs. Ramone trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Ramone trying to control but Matsuenco is working from the bottom. Ramone keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Matsuenco's head. Matsuenco being controlled here, momentarily. Ramone stands and throws Matsuenco's legs to the side, diving into side control. Ramone is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Matsuenco is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Ramone trying to control the position but Matsuenco is working away.

Matsuenco didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Ramone is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Ramone hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stevenson takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Stevenson fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Pippen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Stevenson.
Stevenson keeps the fight on the outside. Pippen swings for the body but Stevenson moves out of range.
Stevenson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pippen circles away. Pippen slaps away a takedown attempt from Stevenson, before circling back to the center of the mat. Jordan Pippen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Stevenson. Nice takedown defense from Pippen. No joy for Stevenson on that attempt. Stevenson moves into range and clinches up with Pippen. Stevenson tries to pull guard but Pippen holds him up against the cage and eventually Stevenson drops back down to his feet.
A frustrated look appears on Pippen's face as he tries to break the clinch. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Stevenson misses with a takedown attempt - Pippen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Stevenson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Pippen keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Pippen stalks Stevenson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Stevenson's face. Stevenson staggers backwards, shaken. Pippen tries to clinch but fails miserably and Stevenson moves into the clinch. Stevenson fails to pull guard.
Pippen swings wildly with an uppercut but Stevenson uses good head movement to avoid it. Stevenson blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Stevenson jumps guard but Pippen stands there with Stevenson around his waist. Stevenson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

It's a sloppy attempt though and Al Matayze jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Al Matayze trying to control the position from guard on top but Wen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Al Matayze lands a couple of digs. Al Matayze has gone for a leg lock! Wen slips out almost immediately though and dives into Al Matayze's guard. Wen wants to control from the top but Al Matayze keeps moving. And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Abdullah Zaire. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Zaire, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
