The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Capwell takes a swing at Quela's ribcage but misses.
Quela jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Capwell tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Quela was well out of range. Poor timing from Capwell.
Quela lands with a straight right. Capwell didn't see that one coming.
Chung Quela seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Chung Quela has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Capwell drops back looking for a leg! Quela is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Quela manages to kick Capwell off! Capwell jumps back into Quela's guard.

Capwell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Quela swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Quela enables Capwell to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Quela manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Capwell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Capwell bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Capwell tries for a kimura but Quela is defending well.
Capwell creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Quela sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Check out the look on Capwell's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Capwell in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Capwell goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Quela has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Capwell but great work by Quela.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Capwell is looking to take a break and control but Quela is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Capwell goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Quela rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Capwell's guard! Nice work there by Quela!

Capwell throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Quela escapes and throws Capwell's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Quela has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

and Quela connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Capwell ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Quela moves away.

Quela connects with a body shot that sends Capwell's belly button to the back.
A telegraphed right hand from Quela misses the target.
Quela bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Capwell's head.

Good leg kick by Quela there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Quela's jab looks to have found its range, popping Capwell under the eye.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Quela takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Capwell throws a jab but it's blocked by Quela.

That was a close round but Mason Capwell did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Quela uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Capwell has time to react.

Capwell walks straight into a right hand from Quela - that's dropped him! Quela jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Capwell from any more punishment! Capwell complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
