The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diggins stuffs the takedown. Mullins shoots for a takedown but Diggins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Mullins doesn't succeed with the takedown and Diggins counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Franklin Diggins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. Mullins goes for a takedown attempt but Diggins pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Diggins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Machida lands an overhand right. Flauta steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Machida. Flauta ducks under a wild hook from Machida. A slow jab from Machida misses its intended target. Machida thows a left - swing and a miss! Machida misses with a looping right. Machida misses with a hook. Machida throws out a loose jab but Flauta uses good head movement to avoid it. Machida pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Machida throws a jab but it's blocked by Flauta. Flauta changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Machida looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Machida takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Flauta landing a few strikes. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Machida is looking to regain half guard here but Flauta keeps moving and retains side control. Flauta cracks Machida with a big right hand but Machida just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Viceroy's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Viceroy was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Santa Cruz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bennett doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bennett manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Bennett is pushing down on Santa Cruz's leg trying to pass to half guard. Santa Cruz is fighting to maintain full guard but Bennett has managed to sneak the leg through. Santa Cruz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Still in half guard, Bennett seems content to control. Bennett tries to bum rush Santa Cruz with a series of wild strikes but Santa Cruz uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
