Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sydney Weyzen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chip Douglas! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Radbod Blank and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Weyzen throws a low kick but Douglas moves out of range easily. No luck with that takedown attempt from Douglas. Weyzen tries to clinch but Douglas is having none of it. Weyzen jabbing away but nothing is landing. Douglas on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Weyzen misses with a low kick as Douglas jumps back. A bone on bone clash there as Douglas blocks the leg kick.
Weyzen throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Douglas on the side of the head. Douglas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Weyzen's guard. Weyzen controls Douglas momentarily but Douglas frees himself. Douglas trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Douglas advances position into side control! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Douglas scores with a couple of short elbows.
That's one minute gone in the round. Douglas lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Douglas working the body and head with strikes. Douglas misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Douglas working the head with strikes. Douglas thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Weyzen is trying to escape the position but Douglas is controlling the position. Douglas working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Weyzen is not content to let Douglas control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Douglas lands a nice forearm strike. Douglas works to advance to full mount. Weyzen defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Douglas postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Weyzen looks a forlorn figure.
Douglas lands a heavy elbow. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Douglas cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Weyzen is rocked! Douglas connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Oh Weyzen is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Weyzen takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Douglas's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
