Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Doug Copley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Uncle Rico! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rico looks to score with a jab to the body but Copley is just out of range. Rico keeps the fight on the outside. A slow jab from Rico misses its intended target. Rico tests Copley's chin there with a solid looking shot. Copley tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Rico manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Copley tries to clinch up and Rico counters with a nice uppercut. Rico keeps the fight on the outside. Copley shoots in but Rico avoids the takedown attempt easily. Rico circles away from the clinch attempt and Rico counters with a right hand to the body. Copley closes the distance looking to clinch and Rico counters with a nice body shot. Rico swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rico's corner calls for a 1-2. Rico obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Doug Copley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Copley fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rico, pushing him back against the cage.

Copley tries to throw a body punch but Rico avoids it by throwing Copley back against the cage. Copley swings wildly with an uppercut but Rico uses good head movement to avoid it. Copley misses with an elbow over the top. Copley throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Rico blocks it with crossed arms. Copley is fighting off a takedown attempt but Rico is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Copley to the mat. Copley regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Copley wants to stand but Rico is controlling the position. Copley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Rico postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Copley looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rico is one step ahead there.

Copley pulls Rico in close to his closed guard and prevents Rico from doing any damage or advancing position. Rico throws a big right hand that misses. Rico scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Copley has his feet on Rico's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Copley avoids the body shot from Rico.

Rico advances position into side control! Rico connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Copley some visible discomfort.

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Will Leander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Igor Makarov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Makarov has chosen Ruskej rapec je klasa as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Makarov wants to clinch but Leander slips to the side and Leander counters with a thumping low kick. Leander tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Makarov is able to avoid easily. Makarov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Leander swivels and escapes. Makarov moves to clinch but Leander breaks away enabling Leander to counter with a crisp jab. Makarov tries to clinch up. Makarov shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Makarov throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Makarov wants to control but Leander is keeping him busy. Leander avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Makarov.

Makarov with shots to the head and body - Leander looks very uncomfortable down there. Leander could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Makarov looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Leander takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Makarov is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Leander can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
It looks like Will Leander has been cut. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Makarov with shots to the head and body - Leander looks very uncomfortable down there. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Makarov cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Leander is trying to defend but Makarov finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Makarov darts in and clinches Leander up against the cage. Leander looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Makarov escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Makarov throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Makarov misses with a leg kick. Makarov throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Leander was covering up waiting for the punch and Makarov finishes the takedown easily into guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Leander is looking to stand up but Makarov isn't so interested in that idea. Makarov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Leander wants to sweep here but Makarov controlling him for the moment. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Leander is working an open guard so Makarov takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Igor Makarov seems to be getting the better of the standup.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Makarov connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Makarov shoots in looking for a takedown but Leander manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Makarov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Makarov lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Leander backs up against the cage.
Igor Makarov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Leander fails to land the takedown. Makarov misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Leander gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Will Leander has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Makarov gets a double leg takedown into Leander's guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Igor Makarov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Makarov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. Igor Makarov wins by unanimous decision! Igor Makarov decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
