The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Onassis tries to keep at a distance but Knocks has taken the fight into the clinch. Onassis blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Knocks with a knee to the head.
Onassis lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Knocks backwards. Knocks blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Onassis is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Knocks is keeping busy. Knocks keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Onassis's efforts to push away. A nice left hand lands by Onassis.

Onassis has clasped his hands together around Knocks's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. You can see the frustration on Knocks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Knocks parries the strikes from Onassis easily there. Onassis is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Knocks to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Onassis working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

You can see the frustration on Knocks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Knocks is breathing heavily. Check out the look on Onassis's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Onassis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Onassis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Knocks keeps working. Scooter is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Diaz is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mote gets caught flat footed, as Jackson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Jackson trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mote's guard. Mote utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Jackson stands up and waves to Mote to follow him. Jackson shoots in for a takedown but Mote shows good takedown defense. Mote scores with a spinning back kick! Mote throws a head kick that half lands.
Jackson stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mote. Mote throws a head kick but Jackson moves out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action! Mote closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Squad tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Squad somewhat. Squad misses with a body shot.

Carter tries to clinch but fails miserably and Gale counters with a beautiful punch that sends Carter to the canvas! Gale postures up and lands a big shot to Carter's brow. Gale not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
