Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sami Kapanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Mazer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sami Kapanen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Max Mazer!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mazer shoots and misses

and Kapanen counters with a single leg into guard. Mazer didn't expect that.
Kapanen working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kapanen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kapanen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Mazer looking for a guillotine here but Kapanen defends easily.

Mazer is looking for a triangle but Kapanen pushes his legs off easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mazer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kapanen is aware though and is defending well.
Kapanen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kapanen wants to stand but Mazer is controlling his posture from full guard.
Kapanen trying to control but Mazer is working from the bottom.

Sami Kapanen has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Kapanen shoots in and bounces Mazer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Mazer throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Kapanen tries to free his leg and advance position but Mazer is retaining full guard.
Kapanen postures up.
Kapanen throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Mazer working for a triangle but Kapanen defends it easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mazer is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kapanen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mazer on the ground.
Kapanen wants to stand but Mazer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Mazer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kapanen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kapanen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mazer is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kapanen defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mazer has Kapanen pulled in close to control his posture.
Kapanen is looking to stand up but Mazer won't let him.
Kapanen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kapanen has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Mazer to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Kapanen is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Mazer pulls down on the head and he's put Kapanen to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Max Mazer!
Max Mazer spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
