The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Melendez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
An elbow from Melendez crashes against the mat.
Palomino Jr tries to buck Melendez off but Melendez is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Palomino Jr is trying to get back to his feet.

Palomino Jr manages to work his way to half guard, despite Melendez's best efforts.

Melendez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Palomino Jr does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Melendez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Palomino Jr's head.
Melendez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Palomino Jr with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

It looks like Melendez is going to stand back up.

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nicolas Reynaud (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riku Rupponen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rupponen comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Cannibal Corpse I Cum Blood kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Reynaud tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rupponen was well out of range. Poor timing from Reynaud.
Rupponen gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Rupponen doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Reynaud connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Rupponen covering up! Reynaud comes in with a big uppercut and Rupponen goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Nicolas Reynaud!
Nicolas Reynaud decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Schwahn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gerald to the mat! Gerald manages to get full guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Schwahn is looking to work some ground and pound but Gerald has wrist control.
Gerald wants to stand and escape but Schwahn is having none of it.
Schwahn wants to control from the top but Gerald keeps moving.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gerald can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gerald wants to get back to his feet but Schwahn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Schwahn's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Schwahn connects with a couple of short punches.
Schwahn stops Gerald from standing up.
Schwahn wants to control from the top but Gerald keeps moving.
Gerald really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Schwahn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Schwahn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Gerald looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schwahn is one step ahead there.
Gerald is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Schwahn dives into side control.

The cut above Paul Gerald's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Schwahn pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Paul Gerald's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Paul Gerald's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Nelson is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Figuera!

Nelson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Figuera to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Figuera shrugs it off.

Figuera is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Nelson.

Nelson is trying to trip Figuera. He has hold of a leg but Figuera is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Nelson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Nelson stands and steps away. Figuera gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Nelson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Figuera can't fight it off and eventually Nelson manages to take the fight to the floor. Figuera looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
