Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brad Black! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sheer Bum! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Black scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Black looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Bum is doing well to control the position and prevent Black from advancing to side control. Bum makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bum. Black wants to control from the top but Bum keeps moving. Black wants to get up but he can't break Bum's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Bum controls Black momentarily but Black frees himself. Bum is looking to stand up but Black isn't so interested in that idea.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bum can't keep his opponent in guard - Black advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Black missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Bum is looking to control Black's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bum avoid being mounted? Black throws a strike but Bum avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Black not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Black looking to sit in guard and control but Bum gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Black looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bum is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Bum trying to control the position from guard on top but Black is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Black tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Bum walks into a left hand. Bum gets caught napping as Black dives in and scores a takedown. Bum manages to retain guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Black trying to control the position from guard on top but Bum is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Black stands and throws Bum's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Black creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Bum sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Black lands a few punches from side control. Bum is not content to let Black control the position. Bum is trying to control Black's posture but Black avoids it. Black lands a decent elbow from side control. You can see the frustration on Bum's face as Black controls the position. Black trying to control the position but Bum is working away. Who's going to make the next move?
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bum trying to control but Black flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back! Bum fending off the submission attempt from Black. Bum preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Black. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bum rolls, trying to escape but Black keeps control of the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Black lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Bum.

Black wants to control but Bum is keeping him busy. Brad Black overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Bum is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Black winds up and cracks Bum with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Black content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Black seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bum for as long as he can get away with. Black scoring with strikes to the body and head.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Black working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Bum is trying to control but can't.
Black takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Black not doing much here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Black fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bum to the ground. Black is now in Bum's guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Black controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Black looking to pass the guard.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Black has gone for a leg lock! Bum slips out almost immediately though and dives into Black's guard. Black is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bum is aware though and is defending well. Bum wanted to stand there but Black had control of the position. Bum trying to control the position from guard on top but Black is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Black swivels though and keeps the full guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dupri tries to sprawl out of it but Alvarez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dupri manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Alvarez throws a front kick aimed at Dupri's knee but Dupri avoids it well. Dupri looks to score with a jab to the body but Alvarez is just out of range. Alvarez closes the distance and clinches. Dupri stalling in the clinch but Alvarez improves position. Alvarez prevents a takedown attempt there.

The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Alvarez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Dupri is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Alvarez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Alvarez's back! Dupri struggling to keep hold of the position.
Antonio Alvarez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Dupri is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Alvarez knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Alvarez for a finish.

Ortiz shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Benton lands with an overhand left. Good standup being displayed there by Benton as he connects with a hook. Ortiz fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Benton lands a big right hand that sends Ortiz crashing to the mat! Benton stays standing though and waves Ortiz back to his feet!
Ortiz is rocked! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ortiz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Benton counters with a huge overhand right that connects right on the temple, sending him crumpling, face first to the floor! This one is all over! What a knockout!
