5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Steeler! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steeler misses with a low kick.
Steeler looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Sonnen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Steeler but Steeler pushes him off and we're back to square one. Sonnen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Steeler's waist but Steeler gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sonnen off to one side. Sonnen takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Steeler displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sonnen. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chael Sonnen. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sonnen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Steeler napping and manages to drive through into side control! Sonnen scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Steeler to see if he's OK. Sonnen trying to control the position but Steeler is working away. Sonnen lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Steeler down.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sonnen fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Steeler taking shots to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sonnen lands a nice shot to the head. Steeler wants to try and get back to his feet. Steeler is bucking up trying to escape but Sonnen cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Steeler is in a horrible position here. Sonnen smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Sonnen sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Sonnen lands a heavy elbow. Sonnen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Sonnen lands a heavy elbow. Sonnen working the ground and pound effectively.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Sonnen lands a nice shot to the head. Sonnen looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Sonnen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. The referee warns Steeler that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Sonnen lands a big elbow. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Steeler can do anything to dispel that myth. Sonnen lands a big shot there that rocks Steeler but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Steeler is rocked! Sonnen has control of Steeler's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Steeler regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Sonnen lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Sonnen landing shots from mount. Sonnen breaks from Steeler's wrist control and lands an elbow. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sonnen fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Oooh a big shot lands for Sonnen! Steeler is out! The ref dives in to save him from more punishment!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nelson throws a body punch but Gracie moves out of range. Nelson throws a right hand that Gracie ducks under and follows up with a left that Gracie also avoids with ease. Henzo Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Nelson is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Nelson circles away and we're back to standing. Gracie falls off balance throwing a combination
and Nelson counters with a two punch combo. Nelson misses with a wild combination.
Gracie shoots and misses and Nelson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Gracie with a poor takedown and Nelson counters with a stiff right hand. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Henzo Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him. A looping hook to the body misses from Nelson. Gracie does a little dance to reset his feet. Nelson lands with an uppercut that bounces Gracie off the cage and back into rage. Gracie is looking to clinch. Gracie tries to clinch there but Nelson circles away.

Nelson thows a left - swing and a miss! Nelson throws a series of punches but Gracie avoids them all with ease. Nelson pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Gracie doesn't manage to clinch there - Nelson circles away.

Nelson cracks Gracie with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Nelson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Nelson throws a good cross that connects.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie with a lazy takedown attempt and Nelson counters with a nice body shot. Gracie is breathing heavily. Nelson jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Nelson connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Gracie momentarily.
Nelson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gracie circles away quickly and effectively. Gracie with a lazy takedown attempt and Nelson counters with a straight right hand. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Nelson, as that shot connected.
Nice straight punches there by Nelson. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Nelson. Gracie walks into a stiff left hand from Nelson.
Gracie is rocked! Gracie walks straight into a right hand from Nelson - that's dropped him! Nelson jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Gracie from any more punishment! Gracie complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Houdini closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Houdini looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Houdini is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jorge knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Houdini prevents Jorge from escaping the position. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Houdini wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jorge, who protects the arm well. Houdini misses with the ground and pound. Jorge tries to escape but Houdini is in control. Houdini looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. This has been an exciting period of action! Jorge tries to escape but Houdini is in control.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paisano tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tager paws at him with a jab and circles away. Paisano tries to clinch but Tager moves out of range. Tager changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Paisano looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Paisano taking punishment in the form of punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tager working the ground and pound. Tager working the head with strikes. Tager creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. This has been an exciting period of action! Paisano is pushing Tager's head away, looking to escape. Tager manages to hold on to the position though. Paisano is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Paisano is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Tager asserts his dominance and retains side control. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Paisano taking a bit of punishment here - Tager scoring with strikes. Paisano wants to get back to his feet but Tager drags him back down. Tager works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Tager cracks Paisano with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Tager immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Paisano is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Tager!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Cazares is looking to escape. De Costa working Cazares over with strikes. De Costa lands with a punch from half guard. Cazares looks like he's trying to stand up.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith punishes Randall's body with a nice straight punch. The fight stays on the outside here - Randall looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Smith displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
It looks like Lashley Randall has been cut. Randall swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Smith counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Smith defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Randall. Smith throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Randall sees it coming and avoids it easily. Smith pushes Randall up against the cage in a clinch. Smith working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Smith pushes Randall back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Randall tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Smith just stands there and leans against the cage. A right hand to the body from Smith.
Randall is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Smith is defending well for now. Smith is trying to break free. A right handed body shot lands from Smith.
Randall looks gassed! Smith is stalling here.
Randall has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Smith avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Hurry Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lashley Randall. Randall trying to stall but Smith improves his position.
Randall tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Smith smiles and moves away.
Smith wants to clinch up but Randall keeps it at a distance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Randall fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Smith scores with a nice head shot. Smith lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Randall is looking to close the distance but Smith sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Randall crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Randall is OK because that was naaaaaasty!

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Capone's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Byson wants to sweep here but Capone controlling him for the moment. Byson wants to get back to his feet but Capone is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Capone sitting in guard, not really doing much. Capone stops Byson from standing up. Capone working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Byson looking for a sweep. Not yet Byson, not yet. Capone trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some bone on bone action there as Sobrawl checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Bique buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
