0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Glenn Schmitz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Al Konigshof! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Joseph Jones and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schmitz digs a good body shot into Konigshof's ribs. Konigshof shoots in for a takedown but Schmitz shows good takedown defense. Schmitz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Konigshof tries to avoid it but Schmitz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Konigshof to the ground. Konigshof escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Konigshof decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Konigshof connects with a nice short shot to Schmitz's temple. Konigshof takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The fighters are battling for position here. Schmitz manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Konigshof throwing strikes from guard but Schmitz blocks nicely. Schmitz is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Konigshof doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Konigshof manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Schmitz utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Schmitz is on top in guard.

Let's see if Konigshof can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nice sprawl there from Schmitz as Konigshof shoots in. Glenn Schmitz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Schmitz leaves Konigshof with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Konigshof is thwarting Schmitz's attempts to control the position. Schmitz pushes Konigshof off looking to stand but Konigshof dives back in and keeps control.
Konigshof not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Konigshof with the ground and pound but Schmitz uses the opportunity to regain guard. Schmitz pulls Konigshof in close to prevent any damage. Konigshof trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Schmitz avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Schmitz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Al Konigshof has got the better of the ground game so far. Schmitz trying to control the action but Konigshof is working from the bottom. Schmitz is really struggling to control Konigshof but he's trying to hold on to the position. Konigshof is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Schmitz is keen to just control but Konigshof is a slippery customer.

Konigshof misses with a takedown attempt - Schmitz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Schmitz shoots in but no luck this time. Konigshof postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Schmitz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Konigshof manages to get himself to full guard.
Schmitz is looking to stand up but Konigshof won't let him. Schmitz trying to control the position from guard on top but Konigshof is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Schmitz is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Konigshof is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Konigshof is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's three minutes gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Schmitz is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Glenn Schmitz just wasn't active enough. Konigshof stuffs the takedown attempt from Schmitz. Schmitz gets slowly back to his feet. Konigshof fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Al Konigshof is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Schmitz slaps away a takedown attempt from Konigshof, before circling back to the center of the mat. Konigshof looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Schmitz is fending him off so far but Konigshof persists. Nope, Schmitz circles away and we're back to standing. Konigshof shoots in and bounces Schmitz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Konigshof stops Schmitz from standing up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Schmitz trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Konigshof pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Schmitz is keeping the position for now. Konigshof controlling from the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mickey Lodi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Brown throws a head kick that Lodi semi-blocks.
Lodi darts in trying to clinch and Brown counters with a nice double leg into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Brown controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Lodi tries to clinch but fails miserably and Brown decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lodi's guard. Brown wants to pass the guard but Lodi is keeping the position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Lodi has momentary wrist control but Brown slips an elbow through the middle. Brown throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Brown postures up and lands a big shot to Lodi's brow. Brown is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Lodi is rocked! Brown has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Brown gets to his feet and stands over Lodi, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Lodi felt that one! Brown unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Lodi from any more punishment!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nino Brown! In his post fight interview, Nino Brown started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.

The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hero has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hero and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Gorlanov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks James with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Gorlanov stalling. Gorlanov passes the guard and advances to mount! James is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
