The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around van der Sloot's waist but van der Sloot gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johnson off to one side. Johnson dodges the punch combination from van der Sloot.
van der Sloot looks to land a combination but Johnson avoids it well. Johnson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from van der Sloot. van der Sloot swats away the attempt to clinch by Johnson. van der Sloot throws a solid leg kick but Johnson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at van der Sloot. Johnson has closed the distance and engaged van der Sloot in a clinch.
van der Sloot lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Johnson backwards. van der Sloot has clasped his hands together around Johnson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Johnson wants to get back to his feet. van der Sloot tries to score with some ground and pound. Johnson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. van der Sloot lands a couple of digs. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as van der Sloot accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. van der Sloot wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving. Johnson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The fighters roll with the hold and van der Sloot manages to kick Johnson off! Johnson jumps back into van der Sloot's guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. van der Sloot bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Johnson's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnson moves out of range of the strikes. Johnson walks into a left hand. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Johnson tries to score a power double leg takedown but van der Sloot sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnson somewhat. Joran van der Sloot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Johnson.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches van der Sloot napping and manages to drive through into side control! van der Sloot is trying to buck Johnson off. Johnson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Johnson has hold of van der Sloot's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! van der Sloot tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Johnson cranks the arm and van der Sloot screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from van der Sloot, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Carneiro shoots in for a takedown but Verchanko shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Carneiro throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. Nope, Verchanko circles away and we're back to standing. Verchanko fails to land with a series of punches.
Verchanko stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Verchanko wants it to stay on the feet. Verchanko lands an overhand right. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Carneiro on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Carneiro looks winded! Verchanko misses with a few strikes there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Verchanko cracks Carneiro with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Verchanko has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Carneiro to stand back up!

Gardner lands a nice hook to Wupaski's body. Wupaski takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Gardner punishes Wupaski's body with a nice straight punch. Gardner uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wupaski.

Chan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Chan showed some decent athleticism there. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Chan is looking to take a break and control but Sajewski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Chan seems like he's working for an arm triangle here.
