Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Edward Newgate! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ian Langley! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A good leg kick by Langley. Nice defenses there by Newgate. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Newgate. Newgate uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Langley. Langley thows a body shot but no joy. Langley throws an off balance right hand
and Newgate counters by clinching up. Langley tries to break the clinch but Newgate is controlling the position. Langley working hard to break the clinch. Newgate missing with knees to the body.
Langley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Newgate throws a head kick but Langley moves out of range.
Newgate shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Newgate fails to land the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edward Newgate. That's going to take a lot out of him. Newgate fails to land the takedown. Newgate keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Ian Langley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Newgate throws a wild body kick that Langley sees coming a mile off. Langley misses with an uppercut. Newgate saw that one coming.

Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Langley throws a hook but Newgate blocks it. Langley throws a looping overhand right but Newgate ducks down to avoid it. Newgate slips a jab and a cross from Langley.
Nice sprawl there from Langley as Newgate shoots in. Langley tries to clinch up but Newgate circles away and keeps his distance. Langley is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent. Langley waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Newgate. Newgate throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Newgate throws a body kick that misses. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Newgate is defended easily by Langley. Newgate is breathing heavily. Langley slaps away a takedown attempt from Newgate, before circling back to the center of the mat. Langley misses with a hook.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Langley misses with a wild body shot. Langley is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Newgate. Newgate gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Langley is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Langley wants to pass the guard but Newgate is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Newgate trying to control the position.
Newgate will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Langley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Newgate swivels though and keeps the full guard. Langley postures up and lands a big shot to Newgate's brow. Langley with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Newgate keeping full guard, as Langley tries to pass.

He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Langley lands a couple of elbows. Langley chips away with some ground and pound. Langley works over Newgate with some ground and pound from guard.
Newgate is rocked! Langley is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Oh Newgate is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Newgate wants to stand but Langley is controlling the position. Langley distracts Newgate with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Langley is in close to Newgate's body, working some short punches and elbows. Langley slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Langley scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Newgate is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Langley can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones shoots for a takedown but Cheney saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Cheney stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cheney wants it to stay on the feet. Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cheney is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Cheney circles away and we're back to standing. Zeref Cheney has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lucas Jones. Cheney moves into the clinch. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Jones lands a body punch in the clinch. Jones fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Cheney is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Jones looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Cheney swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Cheney closes the distance and clinches. Cheney is stalling here. And that's the end of the fight! Lucas Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
