The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lawlor looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Maeda!
Maeda wants to control but Lawlor postures up.
Lawlor scores with punches from side control.
Lawlor connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Maeda some visible discomfort.
Lawlor landing strikes.
Maeda manages to work his way to half guard, despite Lawlor's best efforts.
Lawlor thows a huge punch but Maeda dodges it nicely.
Lawlor not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Maeda tries to roll over but Lawlor keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lawlor misses with a head shot. Maeda uses the momentum to regain guard.
Lawlor makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Maeda utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Lawlor distracts Maeda with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Maeda had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lawlor defends it easily.
Maeda not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Maeda seems keen to control Lawlor's posture.

Maeda working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lawlor doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Maeda is tightening it up a little... Lawlor has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Lawlor reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Lawlor taps out! Nice BJJ there by Maeda!

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank DuBont (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Silva might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Metallica - Enter Sandman. DuBont is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Drowning Pool - Bodies. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DuBont misses with a jab, cross combination.
Silva fails with a takedown attempt.
DuBont slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

DuBont closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Silva is looking to take this one to the mat.

DuBont breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
DuBont rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Silva moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Silva shoots in for a double leg but DuBont sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rodrigo Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
DuBont throws a leg kick
and Silva counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. DuBont is lucky that one didn't land flush.

DuBont pushes Silva up against the cage in a clinch.
DuBont misses with a body punch.

DuBont's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Frank DuBont seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
DuBont fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
DuBont misses with a double jab.

DuBont lands a left and a right that send Silva crashing to the mat, dazed. DuBont thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Rodrigo Silva has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
DuBont throws a jab when Silva was well out of range.

DuBont shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Silva napping and manages to drive through into side control!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
DuBont cracks Silva with an elbow. That is naaassty.
DuBont scoring with punches from side control.
DuBont working the ground and pound but Silva is defending the strikes.
Silva wants to control but DuBont postures up.
DuBont sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Silva is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Silva manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

DuBont not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Silva is trying to control but can't.
DuBont thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Silva's head.
Silva is looking to control DuBont's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Silva avoid being mounted?

Silva makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Silva.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
DuBont pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Silva is keeping the position for now.
DuBont must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
DuBont lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
DuBont wanted to stand there but Silva had control of the position.

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. DuBont doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. DuBont manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
DuBont wants to stand but Silva is controlling his posture from full guard.
Silva wants to sweep here but DuBont controlling him for the moment.

DuBont throws a sloppy strike and Silva has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! DuBont is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Silva!

Rodrigo Silva is the new lightweight champion!
Rodrigo Silva decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
